Former Utah Utes defensive tackle Star Lotulelei has been diagnosed with a heart condition and will not work out at the NFL Combine, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Chris Mortenson.

It is not yet known what the test results could mean for Lotulelei’s future, but the discovery of the condition puts serious question marks over one of the top picks in this year’s draft. Highly rated by many analysts, Lotulelei recorded 42 total tackles with five sacks in 2012 for the Utah Utes.

Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn has ended his playing career due to another shoulder injury, ESPN.com reports.

He has already had three operations on that shoulder and faces another one. Wynn, a junior, threw for 4,637 yards with 33 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in his career.

Whittingham says Wynn decided it was “time to move on” and that he “fought the good fight” after coming back previously from a pair of season-ending shoulder injuries.

Whittingham said further medical tests need to be done but that it’s likely Wynn will need surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder.

Whittingham said that senior Jon Hays and freshman Travis Wilson will now battle to see who starts against BYU this Saturday.

  • Jordan Wynn injury: Utah QB leaves game after hurting shoulder yet again

Utah junior quarterback Jordan Wynn began his college career like gangbusters, winning the starting job midway through his true freshman season and capping 2009 by earning MVP honors in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Then the injuries started piling up. Wynn missed three games as a sophomore with two different ailments (thumb, shoulder) and then another eight last season (left, non-throwing shoulder), which at least earned him a redshirt.

Now, Wynn has been hurt again, in the Utes’ second game of the season, at Utah State. He injured his left shoulder after being sacked late in the first half, departing while clutching his arm gingerly. The team announced that he was done for the evening, with senior Jon Hays replacing him.

The Twitterverse is awash with comments that Wynn may be done for good.

If so, Hays and four-star true freshman Travis Wilson, who ran for two touchdowns (among his seven carries) and completed both of his passes in Utah’s season-opening 41-0 win over Northern Colorado, will fight it out for the starting job.
