Cal reportedly has interviewed Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes, while another potential candidate has taken his name out of the running.

Meanwhile, Gary Andersen said he is staying at Utah State, after being mentioned as a candidate at Cal and Colorado.

Dykes has a history in the Pac-12, having served as offensive coordinator at Arizona during Mike Stoop’s tenure. The Wildcats’ offense thrived under Dykes in 2007-2009.

Dykes has already interviewed for the coaching opening at North Carolina State.

Dykes is 22-15 in three seasons at Louisiana Tech and had the Bulldogs ranked as high as No. 19 during the 2012 season.

In Anderson’s fourth season at Utah State, the Aggies (10-2, 6-0 WAC) set single-season records for wins (10) and earned their first outright WAC title since 1936.

Cal fired Jeff Tedford at the end of the regular season, his 11th at Berkeley.

The University of California has added marquee player to their 2013 freshman class. Jabari Bird of Salesian High in Richmond California has committed to the Golden Bears program, according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News.

Bird is a 6-5 shooting guard that ranks among the top high school players in the nation by Scout.com (who ranked him 16th) and Rivals.com (who ranked him 24th). A family connection may have helped him make a decision – Bird’s father Carl starred for the Golden Bears in the 70s, leading the team in scoring in 1976.

Bird shunned offers from the University of Colorado, the University of Oregon, and the University of Washington to attend Cal.

Cal’s star wide receiver, Keenan Allen, won’t play in Friday’s game against the Huskies, Dan Greenspan reported on Twitter:

According to head coach Jeff Tedford, Allen has a PCL injury to his left knee. Tedford commented on the severity of the injury but wouldn’t commit to saying how long he’d be out:

Allen, a junior, set Cal’s career receptions record with his 205th catch during the team’s 49-27 loss to Utah last Saturday. He suffered the knee injury in the final minutes of that game. Allen is currently second in the Pac-12 in receptions this season with 61 behind USC’s Marqise Lee (76).
