Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta said today that Ubaldo Jimenez plans to drop the appeal of his five-game suspension, according to the Associated Press.

Jimenez was suspended on Monday for hitting his former teammate, Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, with a pitch in a Sunday spring training game. Both benches cleared in the incident, but no punches were thrown.

The former Rockies hurler did not apologize for the plunking, commenting merely that “Players are hit by pitches every day,” and he was fined the following day.

Tulowitzki and Jimenez played together in Colorado for five seasons; the Rockies traded Jimenez to the Indians for minor leaguers at the trade deadline last July.

There’s apparently no love lost between Cleveland Indians hurler Ubaldo Jimenez and his former team, the Colorado Rockies — MLB.com reports that Jimenez has been suspended five games for throwing at former teammate Troy Tulowitzki.

Jimenez drilled Tulowitzki in the elbow in the first inning of yesterday’s 12-10 Tribe win. Both benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.

Jimenez told reporters later that he saw no reason for a suspension, insisting that “Players are hit by pitches every day,” but apparently Major League Baseball saw otherwise.

Tulowitzki and Jimenez came up together as rookies on the 2006 Rockies and played together for five years. Jimenez was traded to Cleveland at the deadline last summer for a package of minor leaguers.
