The New Orleans Saints and veteran-quarterback Seneca Wallace have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, the Saints announced on Monday. The Saints also signed Luke McCown to a one-year deal earlier in the month. Both McCown and Wallace will serve as backups to Drew Brees.

Wallace was selected in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks and spent his last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Wallace has thrown for 4,808 yards and 31 touchdowns throughout his 10-year career.

The Saints former QB backup, Chase Daniel, signed a three-year deal with the Kansas Chiefs in March.

Free agent Seneca Wallace was in line to become a Raiders backup quarterback according to reports Wednesday, but the Raiders are saying Thursday the two may never come together, according to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Tafur adds that the team could revisit signing Wallace in the future.

The Raiders worked out Wallace and Tyler Thigpen in search of a veteran reserve quarterback to join Terrelle Pryor and new starter Matt Flynn.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Raiders’ quarterback tryout also included Vince Young and Troy Smith.

Seneca Wallace may have lost out to Brady Quinn for the Seahawks backup quarterback job on Tuesday, but he apparently nailed his second audition of the week and will sign with the Raiders, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.

Wallace reportedly competed against Tyler Thigpen — for the second time this week — and possibly others in an audition for the Raiders.

Wallace could possibly compete with Terrelle Pryor for  the No. 2 job or fill the roster as a No. 3 quarterback behind starter Matt Flynn, who joined the Raiders via trade on Monday.

The Iowa State product was released by the Browns this offseason after backing up quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy in 2012.

The game of quarterback musical chairs in the Cleveland Browns camp probably won’t end until a starter is named.

For now, rookie Brandon Weeden is handling the first-team duties and that leaves an uncertain future for quarterbacks Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace.

Wallace said in May that he is willing to be a mentor to Weeden, but only if he is the starter.

Since that is no longer the case, Wallace is not sure if he will ask for a trade and said there is probably not room for him with Weeden and McCoy still on the roster, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

McCoy said his mindframe is clear when he is out on the field.

“When I come out to practice, in my mind I’m the starter,” McCoy said at practice Tuesday.
