The New York Knicks’ newly acquired backup center Marcus Camby is reportedly not close to returning from the calf strain that has kept him out off contact drills and practice for most of October.

According to head coach Mike Woodson, the prognosis is not overwhelmingly reassuring, as reported Tuesday afternoon from Marc Berman of The New York Post:

“I can’t say he’s getting close,’’ Woodson said. “He’s feeling better – put it that way. I’ll talk to (trainer) Roger (Hinds) and the training staff and see if there’s a chance of him coming back next week. I don’t know yet.’’

Camby suffered the strain Oct. 6 and it was initially expected that he’d miss only 7 – 10 days. Woodson said Camby probably wouldn’t join the team for their upcoming road trip to Syracuse-Albany-Montreal.

The Knicks have also yet to see Rasheed Wallace participate in a scrimmage. He is still reportedly working on his conditioning and is only participating in practices. Wallace signed with the Knicks at the beginning of October for a non-guaranteed contract but likely won’t be added to the official roster until he demonstrates that he’s conditioned and able to participate in scrimmages.

Despite an aging team that will likely deal with the injury bug all season, the Knicks will reportedly see the return of swingman Ronnie Brewer to practice on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Woodson. Brewer, who was acquired by the Knicks this off-season, had knee surgery in September and continues to rehab.

The New York Knicks have added more depth on the wings today, agreeing a one-year deal with free agent Ronnie Brewer, according to David Aldridge at NBA.com.

Brewer was available after his former team the Chicago Bulls declined the option on his contract. Brewer appeared in all 66 games with the Bulls last season, starting 43 of them. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, and shot a career-best 27% from three point range while solidifying his reputation as a solid defender on the perimeter.
