Raheem Morris’ unemployment didn’t last long. One week after being fired as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Morris has a new gig as the defensive backs coach of the Washington Redskins.

Morris, 35, spent three seasons at the helm in Tampa Bay, taking over in 2009 after the firing of Jon Gruden. Morris went 17-31 as the Bucs’ head coach and was fired on Jan. 2.

The man hiring Morris in Washington, general manager Bruce Allen, coincidentally once held the same role with Tampa Bay. Allen and Gruden were both fired after the team missed the playoffs in 2008.

Morris has excelled in past positions as a defensive backs coach, earning rave reviews in that role not only with the Buccaneers, but also at the collegiate level with Hofstra, Cornell and Kansas State.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Raheem Morris today, according to ESPN.

“We want to thank Coach Morris for all his hard work and dedication as head coach of the Buccaneers,” the team said in a statement.

Despite a promising 4-2 start, the Buccaneers finished the season with a 4-12 record following a 10-game losing streak. The streak marked the worst stretch for the Buccaneers since the team lost its first 12 games of the 1977 season, according to ESPN.

Morris, 35, had a 17-28 overall record as the head coach of the Buccaneers. In 2010 he lead Tampa to a 10-6 record, putting them just short of playoff contention.
