The San Diego Padres have placed reliever Micah Owings on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right forearm, according to MLB.com.
Owings’ forearm had been bothering him for some time but the Padres had hoped that with rest it would heal. The big right-hander had not pitched for six days before a 1.2 inning outing against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
“We thought, given the rest and it popping up again, it was probably going to pop up again if he went back out there,” Padres manager Bud Black said.
Owings has worked exclusively out of the bullpen this season, posting a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings pitched. Last year in 33 games, Owings posted an 8-0 record with a 3.57 ERA.
