The NFL fined Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh $30,000 for his kick of Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub during a Thanksgiving day game, as first reported by MLive.com’s Anwar Richardson. It is the fifth fine of Suh’s career.

After Suh was taken to the ground, his foot swung toward Schaub and hit him in the groin. The league said on Monday that it was reviewing the play, but Suh would not be suspended.

While speaking to reporters Wednesday Suh maintained that the kick was “inadvertent” and “part of the game,” according to Detroit Free Press beat writer Dave Birkett.

Colts coach Bruce Arians, whose team is preparing to face the 4-7 Lions on Sunday, said during a conference call with reporters that he did not think Suh’s kick was intentional. “He plays the way the game’s supposed to be played,” Arians said.

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has come out firmly against Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in a recent interview, slamming the player who kicked him in the groin in the Texans’ Thanksgiving Day win over the Lions.

“You don’t want a player like that,” Schaub told Houston’s Sports Radio 610 AM. “The stuff that he stands for and the type of player he is, that’s not Houston Texan worthy. That’s not what we’re about as a football team, as individuals, as collectively as a group. We’re not that type of person.”

Suh has been named the NFL’s dirtiest player in a slew of polls, and will likely face NFL discipline for the incident with Schaub.

Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller was fined $15,750 on Friday for an illegal hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, reports the Denver Post.

“No comment,” Miller said when asked about the fine. Miller said he would appeal the fine.

The league said Miller was fined because he “unnecessarily drove the quarterback to the ground.”

The very next play, Schaub lost part of his ear after his helmet flew off after being hit by Joe Mays, the Broncos’ middle linebacker.

Mays was fined $50,000 for the hit and received a one-game suspension.

Miller has been a frequent contributor in giving money to the NFL because of illegal hits, being fined at least $63,250 in the past year.

Miller was fined $7,500 for unnecessary roughness in Denver’s 45-10 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional playoff game last season and he was fined at least three times last season, including $25,000 for a hit on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Joe Mays made highlight reels across the nation this past weekend for a hard hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. The helmet-to-helmet collision was powerful enough to pop the helmet off of Schaub’s head, causing a bloody injury to his earlobe in the process.

The NFL has seen to it that Mays won’t be able to deliver another hit like it this week, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora has more information on Mays’ appeal of the NFL’s decision – based mainly on the linebacker’s relatively clean background in the league.

Matt Schaub led the Houston Texans to a 30-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins this afternoon. Then he ensured he’d be around for many future Texans victories.

The veteran quarterback signed a four-year, $30 million extension to his contract that could see him make up to $62 million over the course of the deal, the Texans announced today.

Widely considered to be among the top quarterbacks in the NFL, Schaub joined the Texans in 2007 after three years with the Atlanta Falcons. He led the Texans to their first playoff appearance ever last season, though he was injured during the playoffs themselves.

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is out for the season with a foot injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Matt Leinart will take over for Schaub, Schefter reports.

Schaub injured his foot on a quarterback sneak late in the second quarter of Houston’s 37-9 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, according to Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. The team was planning on Schaub undergoing more tests this week to see if he could come back late in the year.

“He’s got a significant foot injury, he’s going to miss some time,” Kubiak said. “But we’re going to do everything we can to get it evaluated correctly and see if can get him back on the football field.”

Schaub has played a crucial role in the Texans’ success this season, throwing for 2,479 yards and 15 touchdowns in 10 games for a 96.8 QB rating. The Texans are currently 7-3 and in first place in the AFC.

Leinart, 28, will take over after not playing in a game last season. He has thrown 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in his career for a 70.8 QB rating.
