If Justin Bieber’s entertainment career ever falls through, he could have a future in hockey. The teen heartthrob received an amateur tryout offer from the Bakersfield Condors, a minor league ECHL team.

Matt O’Dette, the Condors’ head coach and director of hockey operations said in the press release:

“Very rarely do you see this combination of skill and toughness,” said O’Dette. “We share a common Canadian heritage since we both hail from Ontario. I’ve scouted some video of him online skating with my hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and I think he could provide some elusive speed up front for us. Plus, he’s a right-handed shot which we’ve been looking to add. I think if we paired him on a line with (Robby) Dee and (Peter) Boyd we’d be tough to beat.”

The press release also said Bieber has “soft hands, a good skating stride, and a devastating wrist shot capable of beating NHL caliber goaltenders.” He has skated with the Toronto Maple Leafs but never appeared in a professional game.

Bieber, who turned 18 in March, was named Artist of the Year at the 2010 American Music Awards and the third most powerful celebrity in the world according to Forbes. He has over 28 million followers on Twitter (@justinbieber).

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is known for drawing attention to himself, but he took it one step further on Tuesday night. The Nationals rookie slugger came to the plate with Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” playing as his walk-up song.

The reason for Harper’s music choice isn’t known. The Washington Post suggested Harper lost bet. But maybe the lyrics of “Boyfriend” speak to the rookie.

“If I was your boyfriend, never let you go
Keep you on my arm girl, you’d never be alone
I can be a gentleman, anything you want
If I was your boyfriend, I’d never let you go, I’d never let you go.”

Could the slugger just want all the ladies to know he’s a gentleman? Could there be a special someone out there he’s speaking to?

Either way, the 19-year-old is off to a strong start to his big league career. He is hitting .289 with seven homers in 45 games. And the Nationals hold a three-game lead in the NL East. If Harper and the team keep that up, fans won’t care about the music he chooses.
