Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh announced during a Monday press conference that Jim Caldwell will stay on as the team’s offensive coordinator next season and that the team has hired former Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo.

Caldwell, the former Indianapolis Colts coach, took over the offensive play calling after previous coordinator Cam Cameron was fired in December. He has helped guide the team to Super Bowl XLVII where they will face the San Francisco 49ers. Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco has thrown for 853 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions in the Ravens’ playoff run.

Caldwell was the team’s quarterbacks coach before he got the promotion and Castillo was an offensive line coach before the Eagles put him in charge of the Eagles defensive. Currently, Castillo is a consultant for the next two weeks heading into the Super Bowl and will be the Ravens’ run-game coordinator next season.

The Baltimore Ravens have hired former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell as the new quarterback coach, according to the Ravens’ official twitter account.

Caldwell will work with quarterback Joe Flacco alongside offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.   Before being hired by the Ravens, Caldwell was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Steelers for the offensive coordinator job.

Caldwell, 57, has been a quarterbacks coach for 15 seasons, including seven (2002-08) with Manning and the Colts.   Coaching the team for three years after taking over for Tony Dungy in 2009, Caldwell’s tenure with the Colts ended in 26-22 record including one AFC title and two division titles.

  • Jim Tressel, Brad Childress Among Candidates For Colts’ Head Coaching Job

The Indianapolis Colts are already underway in their efforts to replace head coach Jim Caldwell, whom they fired Tuesday. Jerry Gray, Mike Zimmer and Pete Carmichael Jr. are among the names already being discussed. But now two big-name head coaches have emerged as serious candidates for the opening: Jim Tressel and Brad Childress.

Tressel, 59, resigned in May as the head coach at Ohio State and worked this season as a Colts consultant. According to Phil Richards of the Indianapolis Star, owner Jim Irsay flew to Sarasota, Fla., today to speak with Tressel, and multiple sources expect him to be interviewed for the head coaching position.

Childress, 55, who coached the Minnesota Vikings for four-plus seasons before his firing in 2010, may also be on the Colts’ radar. Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports that the Colts want to talk with Childress, who also interviewed recently for the vacant position in Tampa Bay.

The Colts went 2-14 this past season in the absence of Peyton Manning, leading to Caldwell’s firing this week. It’s unclear whether Manning or an outside hire, perhaps Stanford prodigy Andrew Luck, will be at the helm when the Colts take the field in 2012.

The Indianopolis Colts are expected to interview New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray, according to the Indy Star.

The head coaching position became vacant after the club fired Jim Caldwell Tuesday following a 2-14 record this season without their star quarterback Peyton Manning.

Carmichael is expected to meet today or Friday in Indianapolis with owner Jim Irsay and general manager Ryan Grigson.  The Colts have also received permission from the Titans to interview defensive coordinator Jerry Gray.

Carmichael has been with the Saints since 2006 and served as offensive coordinator the last three seasons. Last year, Carmichael led the Saints’ offense to be ranked No. 1 in total yards and passing yards and No. 2 in scoring. Gray has 14 years of coaching experience in the NFL.  He was the Los Angeles Rams’ top draft pick in 1985 and spent nine years in the NFL as a cornerback with the Rams, Houston Oilers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Indianapolis Colts reached out to Jeff Fisher prior to firing previous head coach Jim Caldwell to gauge his interest in the team, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Fisher, who previously served as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans for over ten years, agreed to become the next head coach of the St. Louis Rams last week. The 53-year-old signed a five-year, $35 million deal with the club and was officially introduced by the team yesterday.

Fisher was the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach when fired by Tennessee last January. With the Titans/Oilers he posted a 142-120 overall record and led the team to the franchise’s lone Super Bowl berth in 1999. In 2010 he led the Titans to a 6-10 record.

Caldwell was fired by Indianapolis after a tumultuous 2011 season where the club managed to win just two games. In his two previous seasons as the head coach of the Colts, Caldwell led the team to a 10-6 record in 2010 and a 14-2 record in 2009.
