Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley announced Monday on his Twitter page that he will be back with the team next season.

No official announcement has been made by the Packers but according to ESPN.com, Finley was due a $3 million roster bonus by 4:00 p.m. today, and will make $8.25 million this season. He is in the last year of a two-year, $14 million contract signed last offseason.

The team had a decision to make after losing Greg Jennings and Tom Crabtree to free agency. Finley said earlier this month that he would rather be released than take a pay cut from the team.

Finley, 25, caught 61 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Packers.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy praised tight end Jermichael Finley in his season-ending press conference on Wednesday, leading some to believe that Finley will be back with the team next season, reports the Green Bay Press Gazette.

The paper said that McCarthy’s endorsement means it “almost certainly means the tight end will be back next season.”

Finley, 25, is signed through next season at $4.45 million but is due a $3.5 million roster bonus in March. Finley caught 61 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns this season. Finley had six drops in the first six games in 2012 finishing the season with nine and did not drop a pass in his final six games.

“I really felt Jermichael Finley was a different man, a different player from the bye week on,” McCarthy said. “I had an opportunity to talk to him about that at length in his exit interview, so I feel very good about the way he finished the year. He did some good things Saturday night (at San Francisco). There was a change in that young man.”

Leading up to Sunday’s game between long-time rivals the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, Packers tight end Jermichael Finley said that the Bears could be better off without linebacker Brian Urlacher, implying that the 34-year old Urlacher has lost a step.

Bears linebacker Lance Briggs response to that statement was short and simple.

“He’s an idiot,” Briggs said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “Just suit up and play ball. His comments aren’t going to change the outcome of the game, they’re not going to help him or anybody else play better. Doesn’t really matter.”

Finley tried to back off his statement on Twitter saying that Urlacher is a Hall of Fame player and person.  Urlacher is not expected to play against the Packers because of a hamstring injury.  The Packers defeated the Bears 23-10 in September and hold a one-game lead over the Bears in the NFC North.

  • Packers’ TE Jermichael Finley ‘Disturbed’ by Tebow Coverage

Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley told the Milwaukee Journey-Sentinel that the coverage Denver Broncos’ quarterback Tim Tebow has received is “kind of disturbing.”

“I sit at home, start watching TV and all I’m seeing is Tebow,” Finley told the paper. “That’s kind of disturbing. We have a guy here that’s breaking records every week and you have a guy in Tebow that’s saying ‘God’ every word and he gets coverage. Of course I love my faith and God but come on man.”

Earlier Friday, Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco said that he was “baffled” by the attention Tebow has received.

Tebow has gone 6-1 since taking over the starting quarterback position from Kyle Orton.

“He’s telling everybody what they want to hear,” Finley said. “You see him and he’s patting everybody on the back saying, ‘You’re going to make this catch. I promise because God said,’ and he makes it happen. Stuff like that. It confuses people. People that don’t know the game outside of the fans, of course they’re going to hype it up. But guys that see a good player and a good quarterback, they know what kind of guy he’ll be down the road when he gets exposed. Everybody who knows the game knows what kind of player Tebow is going to be.”
