The NFL has suspended wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, according to Howard Balzer via Twitter:

Gaffney was cut by the Dolphins on Tuesday. The team replaced him with rookie tight end Kyle Miller, who was picked up off waivers from the Colts.

Gaffney, an 11-year veteran, struggled in his first season with the Dolphins, grabbing four receptions in three games, and being inactive for the remaining games.

The New England Patriots have released veteran wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, according to reports on Twitter.

The 31-year-old Gaffney was coming off the best season of his career. He caught 68 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns with the Redskins last year.

He had played three seasons for New England, from 2006 to 2008. During those years, he caught a total of 85 passes. The Patriots, deep at wide receiver, also released veteran Donte’ Stallworth on Monday.

Gaffney seems likely to catch on with another team soon. Although he would be at a disadvantage trying to learn a new offense so close to the season, his 10 years of experience on four different teams could help him to be able to contribute this season.

Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney is returning to the New England Patriots, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston.

Gaffney was released yesterday by the Washington Redskins — a surprising development considering he was the Skins’ leading receiver in 2011 with 68 catches for 947 yards and five touchdowns. The 31-year-old wideout quickly signed with the Patriots, the team that revived his career in 2006.

Gaffney is a longtime favorite receiver of Pats quarterback Tom Brady.

“He’s just one of those guys that, from the day we got him here, he was just so reliable and dependable because he knew what to do and he did it well,” Brady said. “Jab could do everything well. I think that’s his versatility, he’s got good size, he’s got long arms, he’s got good speed, he’s got good quickness, he plays every position, he’s smart.”

Gaffney joins a large contingent of receivers already in Bill Belichick’s arsenal — Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Deion Branch, Donte’ Stallworth, Anthony Gonzalez, Chad Ochocinco are among the big-name pass-catchers on the Pats’ roster heading into the 2012 season.

The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, according to a tweet from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports.

Gaffney, 31, was the Redskins’ leading receiver in 2011, hauling in a career high 68 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns. It had been rumored that Washington was attempting to trade the wide-out, but had been unsuccessful.

The Redskins signed multiple wide receivers this offseason including Josh Morgan and Pierre Garcon, which made Gaffney expendable.

Gaffney made National news in the past month for a now infamous Twitter rant about his wife, which he later claimed was done by someone who hacked his account.
