New York Giants right tackle David Diehl agreed Tuesday to a pay cut that keep him with the team for one more season, reports the New York Daily News.

Diehl will make $1 million this season, down from the $4.475 million he was scheduled to make. This allows the team to clear salary cap space.

From the Daily News report:

As part of the “restructuring” the Giants also guaranteed $200,000 of his $1 million salary, essentially turning it into a bonus. The pay cut also lowers Diehl’s salary cap number from $6,903,125 to $3,428,125 – clearing a much-needed $3.475 million in room for the Giants under the NFL’s $123 million salary cap.

Diehl, 32, played in 13 games last season, starting nine contests. He has started 149 of the 153 games he has played in over 10 seasons.

New York Giants tackle David Diehl avoided any ACL damage related to a knee injury suffered Sunday during the Giants’ 41-34 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, USA Today’s Mike Garafolo reported.

    From Garafolo’s report:

The New York Giants’ starting right tackle, who left Sunday’s 41-34 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an injury to his right knee, did not suffer any damage to his ACL, according to two people with knowledge of the preliminary exams performed on Sunday. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the Giants have yet to update Diehl’s status, and they cautioned that the results of the MRI performed on Diehl are not yet available.

The report is good news for the Giants, who has been a stalwart on the team’s offensive line for the past nine-plus seasons. Over that span, he has started all but four games.

Diehl injured his knee in the first quarter. He walked off the field under his own power, but he was quickly determined to be out for the remainder of the game and did not return to the sidelines.

The Giants also lost starting running back Ahmad Bradshaw to a neck injury. Bradshaw is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the damage. And wide receiver Domenik Hixon also left the game after a hit from Tampa Bay linebacker Mason Foster led to him being diagnosed with a concussion.

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw will have an MRI Monday on his injured neck, ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reported via Twitter:

Bradshaw left the Giants’ 41-34 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday during the second quarter with an injury to his neck. Bradshaw had X-rays on his neck and did return to the sidelines later in the Giants’ comeback victory over the Bucs.

The Giants also lost tackle David Diehl to a knee injury and wide receiver Domenik Hixon in the first quarter after a hit from Tampa Bay linebacker Mason Foster led to him being diagnosed with a concussion. All three injured Giants players did not return.

Bradshaw had rushed five times for 16 yards before he left Sunday’s game. In his place, third-year running back Andre Brown carried the load, rushing 13 times for 71 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl apologized on Twitter Monday evening, a day after he was arrested  and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Just before 7 p.m., Diehl took to Twitter to apologize to family, fans, teammates and the Giants organization, saying he had “worked hard during my career to set a positive example.”

According to reports, police responded to calls about a vehicle accident shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday. They found that Diehl was driving a BMW that had hit several parked cars. Upon taking a breathalyzer test, Diehl was found to have a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit.

Before his arrest Sunday, Diehl had been tweeting about the Euro 2012 soccer match between Ireland and Croatia, where he has roots.

This would be the first legal issue for Diehl, who has started all but four games during his nine-year career with the Giants.

New York Giants offensive lineman David Diehl was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of DWI in Queens, NBC’s  Shimon Prokeupecz reported on Twitter.

The Star-Ledger’s Mike Garofalo got a statement from Diehl’s agent, Peter Schaffer, who didn’t directly respond to the reports.

“I am honored to represent David Diehl,” Schaffer said in a brief statement, “one of, if not the classiest, most humble New York Giants ever.”

Earlier in the day, Diehl had been tweeting about the Euro 2012 soccer match between Ireland and Croatia, where he has roots.

This would be the first legal issue for Diehl, who has started all but four games during his nine-year career with the Giants.
