Free agent defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins and the New York Giants have agreed to a three-year, $8 million contract, the NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones reported on Sunday. Jones reported that the deal includes $3 million guaranteed.

The move keeps Jenkins in the NFC East. The Philadelphia Eagles released Jenkins last month after deciding not to pay him a $5 million roster bonus for the 2013 season. Jenkins had also reportedly met with the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. Jenkins had also discussed the possibility of returning to play with the Green Bay Packers, where he spent the first seven years of his career.

Jenkins had four sacks and 22 total tackles with the Eagles last season. He has played in all 16 games in three of the past four seasons.

Earlier on Sunday, Jenkins hinted on Twitter that a deal was coming soon:

The Philadelphia Eagles released defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins on Monday, the team announced.

Jenkins was signed to a five-year, $30 million contract in 2011 and was due a $1 million roster bonus due in March.

Jenkins started every game the past two years for the Eagles and had 9.5 sacks during his time in Philadelphia. Jenkins, 32, was due to make $5.5 million in 2013 and his release saves the Eagles $5.6 million in cap space.

“I had a chance to speak with Cullen today and let him know of our decision,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. “It’s one of the most difficult parts of the job. He has been a very productive player in this league for a long time but we felt it in our team’s best interests that we go in a different direction. By releasing him at this point, it gives he and his agent more time to sign on with another team. We wish Cullen and his family all the best as he continues his NFL career.”

The Philadelphia Eagles have restructured Cullen Jenkins contract, resulting in a major pay cut, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Jenkins’ new deal, originally slotted for a duration of five-years, was trimmed by one year. While he will still receive a $5 million roster bonus in 2012, his base salary for the season was slashed from $2.5 million to $820,000, one source told the Inquirer.

“I’m actually pretty relieved, because I was worried sitting there playing a waiting game,” Jenkins told the paper. ”You’re hearing all the rumors about people saying, ‘They’re going to release him and they’re not going to pay him.’ “

Jenkins came to the Eagles after playing for the Green Bay Packers for eight seasons, where he helped them win the Super Bowl in 2010. Last year for the Eagles he had 40 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
