Philadelphia Phillies reliever Chad Qualls implied in a tweet today that Washington Nationals right-hander Jordan Zimmermann is a liar, and not a man for failing to admit that he hit Cole Hamels with a pitch on purpose.

There have been several people in the media and within the Nationals organization who have called out Hamels for admitting that he hit 19-year-old Bryce Harper on purpose in last night’s game against the Washington Nationals. Hamels told reporters following the game that he threw at Harper because he is “old school.”

Zimmermann later hit Hamels with a pitch in the leg. He did not tell reporters it was his intention to hit the fellow starting pitcher.

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed Chad Qualls to a one-year, $1.15 million deal, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick.

Qualls, 32, spent last season with the San Diego Padres, where he received a one-year $2.55 million deal. He threw 74 innings out of the bullpen, posting a 3.51 ERA . Over his eight year career, Qualls has a 3.78 record in 537 appearances.

Qualls,33, will look to fill a void in a bullpen that has lost Brad Lidge and Ryan Madson this offseason.
