A CT scan has revealed that Rockets forward Carlos Delfino fractured his right foot midway through Game 5 against the Thunder, and will need surgery in the offseason. Delfino will miss the remainder of the 2013 NBA playoffs, per the Rockets press release.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey expressed disappointment over Delfino’s injury. From the press release:

“Carlos has played a large role in our success so far this season and we are disappointed for him that he will not be able to finish out this playoff run,” said Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey.  “Carlos would love nothing more than to be out there with his teammates as they prepare for tonight’s Game 6, but this is the type of injury that requires a surgical repair.  We expect he will be fully recovered in time for the start of next season.”

In his eighth season, the veteran from Argentina has played in 67 games during the regular season, averaging 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Delfino’s absence will be felt as the Rockets try to rally from a 0-3 series deficit against the Thunder. Delfino was one of the defenders being used against Kevin Durant; now, Francisco Garcia and Chandler Parsons will have to avoid foul trouble while guarding Durant.

The Houston Rockets have signed guard Carlos Delfino to a one-year contract with a team option for a second year, The Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan Feigen reported on Twitter Monday night.

Delfino just finished playing with Argentina in the 2012 London Olympics, scoring 15 points in Argentina’s bronze-medal game loss to Russia on Sunday.

He has played the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. Last year, he averaged nine points and nearly four rebounds on 40 percent shooting from the field, including 36 percent from 3-point range.

Delfino, who will be 30 at the end of August, joins a loaded Rockets roster. They currently are stocked with 21 players.

The addition of Delfino could cap a wild offseason for the Rockets. They signed restricted free-agent point guard Jeremy Lin from the Knicks and center Omer Asik from the Bulls to big contracts. And they were heavily involved in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, swinging deals on draft day to try to acquire the new Los Angeles Lakers center.
