Even though he was the player the NFL said the New Orleans Saints targeted during the so-called bounty scandal, retired quarterback Brett Favre doesn’t believe there was a bounty put on his head, calling the allegations, “hearsay”, reports ESPN.com.

“In all honesty, I’m pretty indifferent. But I’d have to say when they were allowed to play, I thought that was the right move because I don’t see enough evidence,” Favre said. “I don’t think ‘Some guy said that this went on’ is enough evidence.

The NFL said that Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma offered $10,o00 to any player that would knock Favre, then with the Minnesota Vikings, out for 2010 NFC Championship Game.  Former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams stated in a sworn statement that Vilma did in fact offer money. The Saints would beat the Vikings and go on to win the Super Bowl.

“I don’t know Jonathan [Vilma] all that well. I think he’s a great player,” Favre said. “Seems like a great leader. Seems like the guys who have played with him have a lot of respect for him and Scott Fujita. The other guys, I really don’t know. I felt like that’s the right thing to do. Otherwise, I think it’s just hearsay.”

Favre said in March that he is not mad at the Saints players but there were play in that game that were questionable.

  • Brett Favre on New Orleans Saints bounty on him: ‘I really don’t care’

Brett Favre was one of the players the New Orleans Saints targeted in their bounty program. In fact, the NFL revealed Monday that the prize for knocking Favre out of the 2010 NFC Championship game was an astounding $35,000.

But on Friday, in his first comments on the situation, Favre told the NFL Network’s Deion Sanders he doesn’t care if the Saints keyed in on taking him out of the game. Favre said the Minnesota Vikings’ loss in that game sticks more with him.

“My feeling, and I mean this wholeheartedly, is that I really don’t care. What bothers me is we didn’t win the game. And they didn’t take me out of the game. They came close, but a lot of people have come close. I’m too stubborn to come out. Plus, that was kind of a big game. I’m not going to sit the last three minutes. I’m going to go out there with bones sticking out of the skin, I’m going to finish it.”

The NFL said Monday that Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma offered “two five-stacks” — $10,000 — to knock Favre out of the game. The league said that Saints coaches, among others, had confirmed the bounty and its amount.

The $35,000 consisted of four pledges: $10,000 each from Vilma, former Saints defensive lineman Charles Grant, and Mike Ornstein, an outsider and convicted felon who the NFL alleges was also involved. Saints assistant coach Joe Vitt put in $5,000.

The NFL last week showed video of Vitt telling his defense that Favre was out of the game with a broken ankle after a vicious hit from Anthony Hargrove, after which Hargrove requested “the money.” But Favre stayed in the game, and Hargrove ended up being fined $5,000.

Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy wants to retire Brett Favre’s No. 4 jersey, but wants to wait a year or two so it will mean more to the legendary quarterback, according to Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Favre last played for the Packers in 2007, culminating a historic 16-year career with the team where he set numerous team and NFL records. During his time in Green Bay he won three NFL Most Valuable Player awards, and helped lead the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1997.

Favre retired following the 2010 season.

  • Dylan Favre, Brett’s Nephew, Arrested For Marijuana Possession In Mississippi

A rotten apple has fallen from the family tree of former NFL quarterback Brett Favre — his nephew, Dylan Favre, was arrested early this morning for marijuana possession, according to the Sun Herald in Mississippi.

Dylan Dewayne Favre, 20, was arrested at 12:43 a.m. today by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, said Chief Deputy Shane Tucker. The exact amount of marijuana found was not revealed.

Favre remains in custody, and Tucker says it’s likely that a judge will set bond tomorrow.

The younger Favre is also a former quarterback — he began the 2011 season at Mississippi State, with hopes of winning the Bulldogs’ starting job in his freshman season. That bid was unsuccessful, as Favre made just 26 passes, completing 13 and averaging 4.6 yards per pass. He transferred to Pearl River Community College in December.

  • Ex-Saint Anthony Hargrove Denies Bounty On 2010 Hit Of Brett Favre

Former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove released an extensive statement today, refuting the allegation that the Saints’ bounty program motivated him to put a late hit on Brett Favre in the 2009 NFC title game.

Hargrove said in the statement that “the late hit and the comments were both mistakes,” according to ESPN, but denied the role of a bounty system. He added that he “absolutely and categorically” did not want Favre to be injured and received “nothing for the play some keep referencing.”

Hargrove’s Saints beat Favre’s Minnesota Vikings, 31-28 in overtime, on Jan. 24, 2010 to win the NFC and advance to Super Bowl XLIV. Favre threw two interceptions, including a key one late in regulation to blow a potential win.

Hargrove apologized for hitting Favre and later gloating about it, but resented the extra scrutiny his hit has received lately because of the Saints’ bounty scandal.

“Players all over the league do the same thing every Sunday, make late hits and say stupid things,” he said. “But I can say with absolute certainty that neither the late hit nor the comment have anything whatsoever to do with the issue being so hotly discussed in the media.”

Hargrove played for the Seattle Seahawks last season. He is currently a free agent.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver, Greg Jennings told the “Ian O’Connor Show,” on ESPN New York 1050 that he believes quarterback Aaron Rodgers is better than Brett Favre.

“They both bring different things to the table, but honestly right now I definitely have to go with … Aaron, his body of work at such a young age, his attention to detail, his discipline, I think it’s really second to none — its un-paralleled,” Jennings said, as transcribed by ESPN.com.

“You haven’t really found a QB that has done it the way (Rodgers) has done it,” Jennings told ESPN 1050.

Since Rodgers has taken over as the quarterback in Green Bay, Jennings numbers have sky rocketed. The 28-year-old receiver has hauled in 291 passes for 4,619 yards and 34 touchdowns in 61 games with Rodgers under center as opposed to 98 receptions, 1,552 yards and 15 touchdowns in two seasons with Favre.

Rodgers will compete this Sunday in the divisional playoffs attempting to accomplish something that Favre never did, winning a second Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers.

  • Packers WR Donald Driver Prefers Aaron Rodgers Over Brett Favre

Longtime Packers wide receiver Donald Driver has played with two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks in Green Bay, however the 13-year veteran reportedly prefers Aaron Rodgers over Packers legend Brett Favre, according to USA Today.

“I’ve played with two quarterbacks,” Driver told USA Today. “One just went out there and did what he did, and he wasn’t patient at all. But Aaron takes what the defense gives him, and that’s the type of guy you want.”

Driver played with Favre from 1999-2007 with the Packers. His best season in that stretch was in 2006 when he hauled in 92 catches for eight touchdowns. His best season with Rodgers under center was 2008 when he grabbed 74 catches for five touchdowns. Rodgers, however, took over at quarterback after Driver was already 33-years-old.
