Skip Holtz has been offered the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech, per a source in a report from Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com via Twitter. Holtz reportedly is expected to accept the job within the next two hours.

Holtz was in the market for a new job after being fired by the University of South Florida at the end of the 2012 season. USF produced its worst season in school history, 3-9 overall and 1-6 in Big East play, in Holtz’s final year. In three years at USF, Holtz was 16-21 overall and 5-16 in the Big East.

Louisiana Tech has been looking for a head coach since Sonny Dykes took the job at Cal. The Bulldogs were 9-3 overall record and 4-2 record in the WAC under Dykes in 2012.

The University of South Florida won’t have Notre Dame transfer Aaron Lynch playing on the defensive line this season.

USF coach Skip Holtz said Lynch, a defensive end, will sit out this season after his NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility was denied.

Lynch played in 12 Notre Dame games as a freshman, starting six. He totaled 33 tackles including seven for loss and had 5.5 sacks.

Lynch transferred amidst rumors of an upcoming suspension or dismissal, but Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said it was for personal reasons.

The Irish signed Lynch as a highly recruited DE out of Island Coast High School in Cape Coral, Fla.
