The Cleveland Indians are making a push to sign free agent outfielder Nick Swisher, according to multiple reports. Swisher, a Columbus, Ohio native and Ohio State product, visited Cleveland this week to meet with the Indians’ front office and has a standing offer from the Indians.

The team has a hole to fill in its outfield after trading Shin-Soo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds in a three-team deal last week. Swisher could fit the bill as a veteran right fielder, alongside young players Michael Brantley and newly acquired center fielder Drew Stubbs.

WTAM’s Nick Camino reported that Swisher had dinner with Indians president Mark Shapiro on Monday.

The 32-year-old met with more members of the Indians’ front office today before leaving to visit another team, reports MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian.

Swisher posted an .837 OPS, 24 home runs and 93 RBI for the Yankees last season and owns an .828 career OPS. He played four seasons in New York after spending one year with the White Sox and four with the Athletics, who drafted him in the first round in 2002.

He is believed to be seeking a four- or five-year deal and has also been linked to the Mariners, Orioles, Phillies, Rangers and Red Sox.

It looks like the Indians might be able to nab Nick Swisher. Buster Olney of ESPN reports that Indians have the upper hand in signing the right fielder.

Jim Bowden of ESPN reports that the Indians are looking to offer Swisher a four-year deal worth $48-50 million, but the market has him looking a little higher.

The Indians seem like the front runner for now, and have a good shot if the club ups the amount it plans to offer. The Mariners are the Indians’ biggest competition for Swisher right now.

Today’s signing of catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli may not be the only move the Red Sox make on the first day of the Winter Meetings.

CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman reports free-agent outfield/first baseman Nick Swisher is a possibility for the Red Sox.

ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark reports the Red Sox are still interested in Swisher, as well as Cody Ross and Shane Victorino.

Swisher, 32, hit .272/.364/.473 with 24 homers and 93 RBI for the Yankees last season.

Victorino is coming off a down year, hitting just .255/.321/.383 in 666 plate appearances with the Phillies and Dodgers.

Ross reportedly is asking for a three-year, $25 million deal after hitting 22 home runs for the Red Sox last season.

The Red Sox are in contact with catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli and outfielders Nick Swisher and Cody Ross, reports CBSsports.com’s Jon Heyman. Seeking a first baseman and two outfielders, the trio is emerging as the team’s top choice.

Napoli is talking with the Mariners and Rangers, but the Red Sox appear to be his favorite. If Napoli goes elsewhere, the Red Sox will likely pursue Adam LaRoche, given the high price of long-shot option Josh Hamilton.

Swisher and Ross are both likely drawing attention from a myriad of teams, including the Giants, Braves, Mariners, Orioles, Phillies and potentially others. The Red Sox have been trying to re-sign Ross since the end of the season.

Free-agent outfielder Nick Swisher is attracting interest from at least six teams according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The Mariners, Orioles, Phillies, Giants, Braves and Nationals are all believed to have some level of interest. Several teams seem willing to go to at least three years, with the likely salary figure estimated to be in the $11 million to $13 million range. With so many teams possibly interested there’s a very good chance he’ll be able to get at least a four-year deal.

A source told the New York Daily News that at least five teams — including the Mariners and Rangers — have expressed interest in Swisher.

Swisher was among three Yankees to reject the team’s qualifying offers Friday afternoon. He batted .272 with 24 home runs and 93 RBI in 2012.

Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher and Joba Chamberlain aren’t too popular among their peers, according to a poll of 100 MLB players conducted by Men’s Journal.

The results of the poll will be published next month, but some of them were already out on Wednesday, according to CBS New York.

A-Rod is the second most-hated player in the league and teammate Nick Swisher is the third most hated. The only player hated more than them is White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who received 33-percent of the votes.

According to CBS New York, a number of MLB players and officials told Men’s Journal why Swisher, in particular, is so hated:

“Everything about (Swisher) is annoying, from his mannerisms to his always wanting to ‘bro’ it down,” an unnamed American League veteran told the magazine. “Being around him is just exhausting.”

A third Yankee also earned a superlative. The oft-injured reliever Joba Chamberlain was voted “most overrated,” with one player telling the magazine, “If Joba didn’t play in New York, no one would know him.”

San Francisco and Philadelphia took home the honor of being called the cities with the most obnoxious fans, according to the players, and New York was voted third.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier today that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were working out tight end Dallas Clark, hoping to strike a deal with him this week. Now we have an update — Clark and the Bucs are getting closer, and a final agreement is expected within 24 hours.

Clark is a former Indianapolis Colt — after nine years in Indy, Clark parted ways with the Colts in March when the team began a firesale after the departure of Peyton Manning.

Clark had 34 catches for 352 yards and two touchdowns for the Colts last season.

The Buccaneers are reportedly working on a trade to unload their current tight end, Kellen Winslow.

New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher left Sunday’s game after experiencing tightness in his left hamstring, according to MLB.com. He will undergo a precautionary MRI.

Swisher left in the third inning after coaxing a walk. The report states he ran down to first, and it appeared as if he were trying to massage out a cramp in his leg.

On the season, Swisher is batting .284/.355/.617 with six home runs and 23 RBIs, which is second-best in all of baseball.
