LaMarcus Aldridge concerned by wrist injury

Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge played through Tuesday’s game with a sore wrist that has the potential to be a real problem.

Trail Blazers big man LaMarcus Aldridge had X-rays taken of his wrist just before Tuesday night’s game. He played with the sore wrist, hitting 5-of-14 shots and contributing 19 points.

He reportedly did not take any shots during warm-ups and became “scared” for his wrist. The X-rays came back negative, but the soreness is persisting and affected his shooting on Tuesday night. It’s a good sign that he managed to play after injuring it in Monday’s game, but there’s a chance the Trail Blazers will run more tests on the wrist in the next few days.

Aldridge is the team’s leading scorer and is officially listed as day-to-day for the time being.

Portland Trail Blazers center LaMarcus Aldridge wrote on his blog late Friday that he was hospitalized last week for what turned out to be a “deadly” blood virus. He’s doing “much better” now, though. Here’s what he wrote:

This past week was a very scary one for me.  On Saturday I came down with a blood virus. I quickly became sick and had to be rushed to the hospital. I thought it was a case of bad food or a bad cold, but I was wrong.  It turned out to be a very serious virus that if not treated quickly could actually be deadly! One thing I know for sure is that I’ve never felt worse in my life and there were times I wasn’t really sure where I was going. Thankfully I had a lot of family support and great medical care that helped me fight through it and now I’ve turned the corner and I’m feeling much better.

The Oregonian talked to a team spokesperson, who said the team knew of the incident and had its doctors monitoring the situation.

“LA is on the road to recovery and we are confident that he’ll be just fine,” the spokesperson told the paper.

Aldridge averaged 21.7 points and eight rebounds per game this season. The Blazers finished eight games out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Portland Trail blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge will have arthroscopic surgery on his hip and and miss the remainder of the season, according to The Oregonian.

“The organization, myself and my family, we all feel like this is something we want to do, have it fixed now and move past it,” Aldridge said Thursday, according to the report.

Aldridge was named an all-star for the first time in his career, finishing the year averaging 21.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the 28-31 Blazers.

“I feel bad for LaMarcus,” interim coach Kaleb Canales told the paper. “I know he wants to be out here competing with his team, growing, improving. We spend a lot of time together, so it’s definitely challenging. I support him, the organization supports him.”

It is not yet clear whether or not Aldridge will be forced to miss the Olympics this summer.

“I’m not going to rush it because I know my main goal is to be healthy next season,” he said. “I’m not going to push it for that. I definitely want to play with those guys, but I want to be healthy.”

At the moment, Aldridge is considered questionable for the Blazers’ home game tomorrow night against the Golden State Warriors.

Aldridge currently leads the Blazers with 21.7 points per game, plus 8.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Portland ranks 11th in the Western Conference at 27-31.

  • NBA admits to erroneous goaltending call

The NBA released a statement Monday regarding a goaltending call in the Portland Trail Blazers game with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The play in question occurred late in regulation, when LaMarcus Aldridge appeared to block a Kevin Durant layup attempt. A goaltend was called, which tied the game with six seconds left. The Thunder eventually won in overtime.

“With the benefit of slow motion replay following the game, it has been determined that Aldridge made contact with the ball just before the ball hit the backboard. Therefore, this should have been ruled a good block and goaltending was the incorrect call,” the NBA said, in a statement.

Referees cannot use instant replay to review a possible goaltending violation, but Blazers coach Nate McMillan thought the block was good at first glance.

“I thought it was a good block. That game should have been over,” McMillan said after the game, according to the Associated Press.

Free agent guard Jamal Crawford would like to play with the Portland Trail Blazers when the NBA lockout comes to the close, according to Oregon Live. Crawford expressed his desire to play with Portland on Sunday following a charity basketball event hosted by Trail Blazers’ star LaMarcus Aldridge.

Crawford told the site that he considered the Blazers his “hometown” team, and that it was his preferred landing spot once free agency opens to NBA players.

“Every game I wasn’t playing in Atlanta, I was watching (the Blazers) because of Brandon (Roy),” Crawford told Oregon Live. “That’s one of my best friends. And LaMarcus, the way he emerged; I just think they’re a team on the rise.”

Crawford, 31, has been one of the best bench players in the league for the Atlanta Hawks over the past two seasons. Last year he averaged 14.2 points in 30.2 minutes per game. His best season came in 2007-09 as a member of the New York Knicks when as a starter he averaged 20.6 points and 5.0 assists per game.

In October, Crawford was in the headlines when NBA superstar LeBron James expressed his interest in bringing him to the Miami Heat. Aldridge has also lobbied publicly for his services.
