L.A. Galaxy and U.S. National team forward Landon Donovan will not be retiring from soccer. At least, not yet. Speaking to Galaxy Insider’s Adam Serrano, Galaxy head Coach Bruce Arena said that Donovan will return to the team despite not being present at the first day of preseason training.

Donovan spoke towards the end of last season about losing his passion for playing soccer and planned to take an extended break from the game at the conclusion of the season to ponder his future. U.S. National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann met personally with Donovan to discuss the striker’s role with the national team, but said no definitive decision had been made at that time.

A return to MLS play doesn’t necessarily mean that Donovan will re-join the United States for its World Cup qualifying campaign this year, however. Donovan, 30, holds the record for most goals scored in U.S. National Team history and has been the face of soccer in the United States for the better part of a decade.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer, the team announced Monday afternoon. Specific details of Cudicini’s contract with the Galaxy have not been revealed, but multiple reports indicate the goalkeeper will count as a “Deisgnated Player” for MLS salary cap purposes.

The move means that in all likelihood the Galaxy will have a new starting goalkeeper. Cudicini has played in the English Premier League for 10 season, though most of his recent seasons have been spent on the bench. Cudicini was Chelsea’s starter between the sticks from his arrival in 2001 until current starter Peter Cech was signed in 2004. Since then Cudicini has mainly been a backup – for several more years at Chelsea, then the past three seasons at Tottenham.

David Beckham has several “serious proposals” from clubs around the world, but the former L.A. Galaxy midfielder and England captain is in no rush to make a decision, according to a report from the Associated Press:

A “host of clubs” have come in with offers for Beckham, according to a statement by his management company issued to The Associated Press on Thursday, but it remains “early days in the process.”

“David is in no hurry to make a decision, the key is making the right one as he has always done successfully in his career,” the statement said.

Beckham left the Galaxy after five years with the team and an MLS cup victory on Dec. 1. He has also played for Manchester United (1993-2003), Real Madrid (2003-2007) and on loan for AC Milan (2009, 2010). Offers have reportedly come in from clubs in France, Australia and Asia. Beckham, 37, said a return to the EPL was unlikely, as is a move to Australia’s A-League.

International soccer superstar and former England team captain David Beckham was not selected to represent his home country in the 2012 London Olympics.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder helped bring the Olympics to London when the city was selected to host the event in 2005. He made head coach Stuart Pearce’s top 35 but failed to make the final 18.

In a statement to the Associated Press, Beckham stated his disappointment with the snub.

“Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad,” the 37-year-old Beckham said Thursday. “Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”

  • David Beckham Unhappy About Playing Time

Los Angeles Galaxy superstar, David Beckham, was unhappy about his half-time substitution during Saturday’s loss against the New England Revolution, according to The Daily Mail.

‘I’m sure he is not pleased about it,’ head coach Bruce Arena told the paper. ‘But that’s not the issue in the game. The issue in the game was that 11 players from New England soundly outplayed 11 players from the Galaxy.

‘I don’t [know] of any players that would be happy about coming out at half-time. I just felt we needed a little bit more.

‘We needed to make a change in the midfield. It was purely a coach’s decision.

‘I couldn’t change 11 players. That’s what I told the team at half-time. If I had 11 substitutions, I would have considered that. I can’t give you all the answers right now, that’s for sure. It wasn’t good.’

After last season Beckham, seriously considered making the move back to Europe and signing with  Saint Germain of Paris. The L.A. Galaxy has lost two of their three opening games and Beckham has contributed just two assists and nine shots.

Last season, Beckham started 38 games taking 43 shots and converting two of them to goals, but he did have 16 assists. While playing in the MLS he has won the MLS Supporters Sheild in 2010, 2011 and MLS Cup in 2011.
