The Knicks have agreed to sign veteran forward Kenyon Martin to a 10-day contract, a source told Yahoo! Sports.

After Rasheed Wallace injured his left foot in December, Martin has been among the front-court players reportedly on the Knicks’ radar leading up to Thursday’s trade deadline.

Martin, who has played with Knicks Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd, is an unrestricted free agent who last played with the Clippers in 2011-12.

The Knicks’ trade of Ronnie Brewer to the Thunder Thursday helps the team make cap room to add Martin.

Los Angeles Clippers free agent forward Kenyon Martin is once again being linked to the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, but according to MSG’s Alan Hahn, the snag in Martin joining any team is that the 34-year-old refuses to sign for the veterans minimum:

Kenyon Martin is the player so many continue to link to the Knicks, but K-Mart has remained steadfast in not wanting to accept a veteran’s minimum.

Chris Andersen, Martin’s teammate with the Denver Nuggets, is reportedly also linked to the Knicks, with Hahn saying the “Birdman” has been “pushing the idea, [b]ut the sentiment isn’t mutual.” Ditto for Tracy McGrady, who tried out with the Knicks but according to Hahn, “there doesn’t appear to be great interest there.”

Because of their salary cap, the Knicks would only be able to afford a player at the veterans minimum with their current roster.

Talks between Kenyon Martin and the L.A. Clippers are heating up, as sources now tell the L.A. Times that the Clippers are prepared to offer the veteran big man the mini-mid-level exception of $2.5 million.

Martin met recently with Clips coach Vinny Del Negro and GM Neil Olshey to gauge his interest — while he hasn’t yet received a formal offer, multiple sources confirm the interest is there. Martin has also received inquiries from the Miami Heat, L.A. Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks.

Martin averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds last season in 48 games with the Denver Nuggets. More recently, he played for Xinjiang in China. He left the team in December but won’t be eligible to play in the NBA until after the Chinese season ends, which might be as early as Feb. 16.

Martin’s agent, Andy Miller, has said that he expects his client to make a decision by this weekend.

With Zydrunas Ilgauskas retired and Juwan Howard days away from his 39th birthday, the Miami Heat are really hurting for depth at the post positions, and they’re beginning to look into outside hires to alleviate the problem. Miami has made offers to both Kenyon Martin and Joel Przybilla, their agents told ESPN.com.

Martin, 34, averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in 48 games for the Nuggets last season. When the lockout began last summer, he left the States and signed a one-year contract with Xinjiang in China; he will be eligible to return to an NBA team when the Chinese season ends in a couple of weeks.

Martin wants to join a contending team where he can play a prominent role — he’s considering the Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN.

Przybilla, 32, has battled knee injuries throughout his 11-year career, averaging just 50 games per season. He played in 36 last season for the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Bobcats, averaging 1.8 points and 4.0 rebounds. Przybilla is expected to choose between the Heat and the Chicago Bulls.

The Heat are currently 16-6, tied for second place in the Eastern Conference. They’ve leaned on Chris Bosh, their featured big man, for a team-high 800 minutes this season.

The New York Knicks are still in the hunt to acquire former Nets and Nuggets power forward Kenyon Martin, according to SNY New York.

Andy Miller, Martin’s agent, notified SNY via a text  message that Martin will make his decision “by week’s end.”

Martin cannot join an NBA team until Feb. 16, when his former Chinese team finishes their season.  The former top overall pick signed with the Chinese team during the NBA lockout. Apart from the Knicks, Martin could land in Miami, Los Angeles (Clippers), San Antonio, or Atlanta.

Playing 48 games last season with the Nuggets, Martin averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Kenyon Martin plans to return to the United States and catch on with an NBA team once the Chinese Basketball Association season wraps up on Feb. 16, and there will be a number of team vying for his services. Among them, according to ESPN Los Angeles, are the L.A. Clippers.

“Kenyon is an experienced guy that knows how to play,” coach Vinny Del Negro said. “He can play some four, play some five. He brings a lot of athleticism to the team.”

Martin, an 11-year-veteran, has averaged 13.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game over the course of his career with the Nets and Nuggets. He turned 34 last month and he’s been hampered by injuries for much of his last three seasons, but he may still have something left to offer a contending team.

“I think he’s very valuable,” said Chauncey Billups, who played with Martin for three years in Denver. “He comes from winning stock. He’s been to the Finals twice, has great ability and is a leader. He’s one of the great one-on-one big man defenders that I’ve played with.”

The Clippers currently sit at 10-6, a half-game ahead of the Lakers for first place in the Pacific Division.

  • Report: Chinese Team Considering Releasing Kenyon Martin

Kenyon Martin may be granted a release from his current Chinese team, which would give him the opportunity join an NBA team, according to an ESPN.com report. This could potentially open the door for other players overseas that hope to be released so that they can return to the NBA.

Martin signed with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers during the NBA lockout, and sources have told ESPN that the only reason the club has yet to release him would be sanctions from the league. The Chinese league implemented new rules that would prevent teams from providing an opt-out clause in case the lockout ended.

Other players — Wilson Chandler, Aaron Brooks, and J.R. Smith — have also signed with Chinese clubs, but they are reportedly eager to return to the states.
