Kansas junior running back James Sims was arrested early Sunday on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to a report in the Lawrence Journal-World.

Sims, 20, was arrested on campus on Jayhawk Boulevard shortly after 2:15am on Sunday, which was confirmed by the Kansas associate athletic director Jim Marchiony.

Back in January, Kansas head coach Charlie Weis had dismissed ten players from the team, including highly-recruited freshman running back Darrian Miller.  With the team already running thin at the position, the Jayhawks are now faced with the decision to discipline Sims. Marchiony confirmed to the paper that the team will handle Sim’s discipline internally.

In his last two seasons with the Jayhawks, Sims rushed for 1,469 yards and 18 touchdowns, starting in all 12 games last season.

Robinson averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season for the Jayhawks, leading them to a regular-season Big 12 title and a berth in the national championship game as well. Kansas lost 67-59 to Kentucky on Monday.

Robinson was a first team All-American and an All-NCAA Tournament selection. He is projected to be a top-five pick in the draft in June.

Danny Manning, one of the best players in Kansas men’s basketball history, is leaving his position as a Jayhawks assistant coach to become a head coach at the University of Tulsa, according to ESPN’s Neil Everett.

Manning, 45, has been an assistant at Kansas since March 2007 and is finishing his ninth season on the coaching staff. He replaces exiting Tulsa coach Doug Wojcik, who missed the NCAA Tournament for six consecutive seasons and was fired on March 11.

Manning is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Kansas history, amassing 2,951 points and 1,187 boards between 1984 and ’88. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft and went on to have a 15-year pro career.

For the moment, Manning is still an assistant under Bill Self at Kansas — the Jayhawks play Ohio State in the Final Four on Saturday night.

The Kansas Jayhawks will name current Florida offensive coordinator Charlie Weis head coach, the school announced Thursday. There will be a press conference Friday.

Weis’ first head coaching job came in 2005 when he took over Notre Dame. He went 35-27 in five years in South Bend, before being fired in 2009. Weis then spent 2010 as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, then taking the same position at Florida under new head coach Will Muschamp. The Gators were a disappointing 6-6 in Muschamp’s first year.

Often hailed an offensive genius, Weis’ Gators ranked 102nd in total offense in 2011. He will inherit a program at Kansas that was 2-10 this season under head coach Turner Gill. Gill finished his Jayhawk career 5-19.
