Giants’ Mario Manningham Hopes To ‘Expose’ Julian Edelman, Patriots’ Secondary

The New England Patriots have prided themselves on their creativity for the last decade, as coach Bill Belichick has never been hesitant to try using his players in unorthodox roles — such as with wide receiver Julian Edelman, who’s been trying his hand at the defensive back position late this season.

New York Giants receiver Mario Manningham, however, is not impressed.

“That ain’t your real position, so we’re going to try to expose you,” Manningham told the Boston Herald. “It’s all or nothing now. That ain’t your position, this is the Super Bowl, and we want you to play that position.”

Edelman, the Patriots’ seventh-round draft pick in 2009, was a three-year starter at quarterback during his time at Kent State. He had only played wide receiver at the NFL level until Week 10 of this season, when injuries forced Belichick to pencil him into the secondary as a nickel back.

“I hope he’s out there when we play them,” Manningham told the Herald. “I don’t want to sound like that, but you know what I mean. To our advantage, I hope he’s out there.”

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman no longer faces sexual assault charges as prosecutors have dropped the case due to their inability to meet the burden of proof necessary for a trial, according to CBSBoston.com.

“Specifically, a review of both witness statements and video surveillance has revealed that the Commonwealth would be unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant intentionally engaged in a harmful or offensive touching of the complainant that would be regarded by society as immodest, immoral, and improper,” prosecutors said in a document filed in court Thursday.

Edelman was charged with indecent assault and battery for allegedly groping a woman at Storyville, a nightclub, on Nov. 1.

The 25-year-old has played in various positions for the Patriots including wide receiver, defensive back and punt returner.
