The Miami Heat have added a big body to their training camp roster, announcing the signing of free agent Josh Harrellson via Twitter.

Harrellson had reportedly flown to Miami for a workout at the beginning of September, and it appears that coach Erik Spoelstra and company like what they saw enough to offer a contract. Harrellson played 37 games with four starts for the New York Knicks last season. He averaged four points and four rebounds per game, but particularly excelled at long range shooting – connecting on 33% of his attempts from long range.

Former New York Knicks center Josh Harrellson gave a cryptic indicator of where his NBA future may lie on Twitter today.

ESPN.com previously reported that the Miami Heat held a workout with Harrellson, and were considering signing him as the last of the 15 players allowed on an NBA roster. Harrellson would likely be the third-string center, behind Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman. However, Harrellson has one thing both lack – range. The former Kentucky Wildcat averaged 33% from beyond the arc in his first season with the Knicks, when he served as Tyson Chandler’s primary backup.
