The Diamondbacks had made the decision to non-tender Saunders last month, however the left-handed starter wanted to work out a way to return to Arizona. Saunders reportedly turned down an initial two-year, $12 million deal, however it appears he has now settled for a one year contract with the club.
The 30-year-old starting pitcher went 12-13 with a 3.69 ERA for Arizona in 2011. In his seven-year career he has posted a 162 game average record of 15-11 with a 4.16 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 208 innings pitched.
The Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Florida Marlins were all linked to Saunders this winter.
