The NFL suspended Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden for four games without pay on Monday for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances, NFL.com reports.

Haden had reportedly failed a test for taking Adderall, which is on the NFL’s banned substance list. Haden’s suspension will start immediately and he will be eligible to return to the Browns active roster on Oct. 8.

Browns president Mike Holmgren said last week that Haden already had his appeal hearing with the league.

Haden was allowed to play in the Browns opening day 17-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he recorded six tackles and had an interception.

Haden was the No. 7 overall draft pick by the Browns in 2007. He recorded six interceptions as a rookie, but had none last season.

This hasn’t been the greatest day in Cleveland Browns history.

First, there are reports of running back Trent Richardson’s knee problems and now ESPN.com is reporting that cornerback Joe Haden failed a drug test and is subject to be suspended four games by the NFL.

The NFL is currently reviewing a failed drug test from Haden.

If Haden is suspended, it would cost him more than $1.356 million in salary.

Apparently, talk of Haden failing a drug test and facing a suspension is news to Haden’s advisors and the Browns.

Haden’s manager, Sean Cabble said, “I am unaware of any situation like that.”

Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis responded by saying, “Don’t know anything about that. Can’t confirm.”

And of course, a NFL spokesman said, “We have no comment.”

Haden, who will enter his 3rd season, had 65 tackles and one interception last season.
