Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would rather have quarterback Tony Romo than Stanford’s Andrew Luck or Baylor’s Robert Griffin III, according to the Star-Telegram.

“Tony is going to play a lot more than two more years,” said the owner’s son and team vice president Stephen Jones. “We are going to take care of Tony. Tony is going to be a Cowboy.”

According to the Star-Telegram, Stephen Jones conveyed his father’s same thoughts, who reportedly said over the weekend that he has no interest in starting over with a top draft prospect in quarterbacks Luck or Griffin.

Despite limited success in the playoffs since taking over as the starting quarterback in 2006, Jerry Jones is reportedly convinced that Romo will lead the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl. Despite the Cowboys missing the playoffs last season, Romo had one of his best seasons of his career last year, finishing with a 102.5 passer rating.

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was involved in an altercation with a famous rapper’s entourage at a Miami nightclub late Sunday night, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The fight broke out after members of the rapper’s entourage mocked Bryant about his mediocre season and his accumulating personal debts.  Bryant’s mentor, David Wells, told WFAA-Dallas News that the wide receiver was not arrested, however he was detained by police for questioning.

The Miami New Times is reporting that the rapper involved in the incident is Lil Wayne, however other outlets have not been able to verify that report.

In 2011, Bryant was involved in several legal incidents including a criminal trespass warning, refusing to move his car parked in a fire lane, and being sued for $800,000 by a jewelry store.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has talked to Bryant about his misconduct off-the-field and has taken over his finances.  The Cowboys have not yet commented on the Miami nightclub incident.

Jerry Jones, the owner and acting general manager for the Dallas Cowboys, told a Texas radio station that he would not consider giving up his front office duties, according to ESPN.

“The facts are that I’ve spent 22 years doing this exactly the same way,” Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM, as transcribed by ESPN. “I’ve made a lot of changes from year to year as time goes along, but frankly, I know that when we do not have the kind of success, when we don’t have expectations lived up to, the one that should get the most heat is the one that ultimately makes the decisions, period, with the Dallas Cowboys. And that’s me.”

“The thing you’ve got to realize is that when you have an owner that is full time as the owner, then you create a situation where you have as much turnover at GM as you do at coaching level,” Jones said. “And I think that just deters from the mix.”

The Cowboys loss Sunday eliminated them from the playoffs with an 8-8 record, marking the second consecutive year the team has failed to make the postseason. Despite having one of the greater dynasties in the history of the sport within the last 20 years, Dallas has failed to win more than one playoff game in the last 15 seasons.

Jones purchased the Cowboys in 1989 and took control of the general manager duties just several months later. As the general manager, Jones led Dallas to Super Bowl victories in 1992, 1993 and 1995.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has had difficulties with endgame time management for two consecutive weeks, and it’s cost his team two games.  And so, despite Garrett’s 12-9 record as a head coach, questions have begun to emerge about his job security should this Cowboys team miss the playoffs.  Team owner Jerry Jones went on NFL Network and attempted to quash those rumors, in terms that went well beyond the usual vote of confidence, according to two tweets from NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano:

Six men have been head coach in Dallas since Jimmy Johnson — who had led the Cowboys to two Super Bowl victories — resigned from the position largely due to his inability to coexist with Jones. None of those coaches have had tenures longer than four years. Garrett was named interim head coach nine games into the 2010 season, and became the actual head coach in January of 2011.
