The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles will interview Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden this week for each of their respective head coaching vacancies, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Sunday. Jay Gruden, the younger brother of former NFL head coach and current ESPN commentator Jon Gruden, has worked as the Bengals offensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

After last season, Gruden declined interview overtures from the St. Louis Rams before signing a three-year, $3.6 million extension to remain with the Bengals. But this year, La Canfora reported that Gruden could be a candidate for the San Diego Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars have not yet decided whether they will keep coach Mike Mularkey.

Gruden worked as an offensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under his brother from 2002-08. After that, he moved on to the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League before reentering the NFL with the Bengals in 2011.

As the Bengals offensive coordinator, Gruden has helped lead the team to two consecutive playoff appearances with young quarterback Andy Dalton. Cincinnati ranked 12th overall in points per game this season. However, Bengals finished just 22nd in total yards.

Both the Eagles and Cardinals are also reportedly interested in Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for their respective openings. The Cardinals are also considering defensive coordinator Ray Horton for their job. Other reported names in the Eagles’ search include Oregon coach Chip Kelly, Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is the favorite to land the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network.

I also have heard continually that Jay Gruden is the favorite to land the Jaguars job. Obviously, he's a little busy right now.

Jay, brother of famed ex-head coach and current ESPN analyst John Gruden, helped put together the offense that put the Cincinnati Bengals back in the playoffs after a 4-12 2010 season. Armed with a rookie quarterback, the Bengals finished 9-7 in one of the league’s most difficult divisions. Cincinnati scored 344 points on the year, which was sixth best in the AFC.

Prior to his work with the Bengals, Gruden was both a head coach for various teams in the Arena Football League and an offensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a player, Gruden won four ArenaBowl titles and was named the Arena League MVP in 1992.
