Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee may represent the Philippines in the 2013 Asia Championships, according to ProBasketballTalk.

There is currently a bill in the legislature that would make McGee a naturalized citizen of the Philippines. McGee visited the Philippines during the NBA lockout several times to appear in exhibition games.

The 24-year-old is slotted to become an free-agent this offseason. In 61 games this season between the Washington Wizards and the Nuggets, McGee averaged 11.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Last season in 79 games for Washington, he averaged 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

  • Report: Nene To Wizards, JaVale McGee To Nuggets In Three-Way Deal

Yes, the L.A. Clippers are getting Nick Young in a trade with the Washington Wizards, but the news doesn’t end there — the complete three-way deal includes the Wiz getting star center Nene from the Denver Nuggets, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post:

The news is shocking since Nene appeared all set to be a Nugget long-term — he signed a five-year, $65 million contract in December and looked happy in the Mile High City. But in a surprising development, the Nuggets move their starting center and leading rebounder in the middle of a playoff-bound season at 24-19.

The Nuggets do get back JaVale McGee, who’s five years younger and a better shot blocker, at 2.5 per game.

McGee is also an expiring contract. The young center is making $2.5 million next season and headed for restricted free agency; it will be interesting to see whether they make him a qualifying offer and attempt to keep him in 2012-13.

  • Video: JaVale McGee Sings Along to Adele In His Car

Wizards center JaVale McGee has drawn attention for a variety of things, both on and off the court this year, that have little to do with helping Washington win basketball games.

Earlier this season he was scolded by his former coach Flip Saunders for throwing an alley-oop to himself off of the backboard during a fast break in a game the team ultimately lost. He also was mocked by many blogs for an incident last month when he sprinted back on defense while his team still had possession of the ball.

Now a video is circulating of the 24-year-old singing along to pop-sing Adele while driving in his car:

  • Report: Contract Extension ‘Unlikely’ For Wizards’ JaVale McGee

The deadline is midnight tonight for the Washington Wizards to offer a contract extension to center JaVale McGee, and an 11th-hour deal is “unlikely,” a source tells Michael Lee of the Washington Post.

McGee, who turned 24 last week, is averaging career highs of 11.2 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in his fourth season. He’s slated to receive a qualifying offer worth at least $3.5 million if he hits restricted free agency this summer.

All 30 NBA teams have until midnight to work out extensions with their 2008 draft picks. Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love and Danilo Gallinari, four of the biggest stars from that class, hammered out extensions recently; McGee, Brook Lopez and Roy Hibbert are among the notable names expected to reach free agency after this season.

The Wizards are in disarray this season, starting with a league-worst record of 2-15. They fired coach Flip Saunders yesterday.

  • JaVale McGee’s Mother Says He’s The Future Of The NBA

Talented Wizards center JaVale McGee has faced some criticism over the past week following an off-the-backboard dunk he threw himself despite the Wizards 1-12 record at the time. Yesterday, his mother defended his actions, according to the Washington Post.

“He is not a knucklehead,” Pamela McGee told the Post. “JaVale is a good kid. My son is special. He has gifts you can’t teach: hands, height and heart. If I’m the Wizards and I’m really trying to build a franchise, really committed to rebuilding and developing, I would nurture that talent. I would help a kid like JaVale the best I could.”

“I know people are making a big deal of that play,” she continued. “Look, JaVale does that to break up the monotony. Wouldn’t you if you were losing like this? He’s been here for four years and it’s been same ol’, same ol’. I don’t want him to get institutionalized to losing. My son is the future of the NBA. I don’t want him to be part of this culture of losing forever.”

McGee’s mother played two seasons in the WNBA in 1997 and 1998. His father was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 1985 but never played in an NBA game.

McGee, 24, is averaging 11.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game this year.

  • Flip Saunders Upset At JaVale McGee’s Off The Backboard Dunk

Washington Wizards head coach called JaVale McGee’s in-game self-alley-oop off the backboard dunk, “unacceptable,” reports the Washington Post.

“Apparently, if you get a fast break and throw it off the backboard in the third quarter, and you’re 1-11, you’re not supposed to do stuff like that,” McGee told the media after being reprimanded by his coach.

The Wizards lost the game 106-114 to fall to 1-12 on the year. McGee, who has been one of the Wizards more productive players this season, finished the game with eight points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
