The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with quarterback Jason Campbell, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports:

Campbell, who was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round in 2005 and spent his first four seasons as a starter, will likely now play a backup role in Chicago to Jay Cutler. The 30-year-old Campbell has been plagued by injuries the last two seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

The Bears’ signing of Campbell leaves the Dallas Cowboys scrambling for a Plan B for their own backup quarterback slot; Schefter reports that Kyle Orton may be their best option.

Campbell has played 71 career games in the NFL, 70 as a starter. He’s completed 1,296 passes for 14,417 yards, 74 touchdowns and 50 interceptions.

Carson Palmer is not expected to start this weekend for the Oakland Raiders, according to a tweet from Michael Fabiano of NFL.com.

It had been previously reported that Palmer, who was just traded to the Raiders in exchange for at least one, and potentially two first round picks, would start this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 31-year-old quarterback was acquired by the Raiders after starter Jason Campbell went down with a potentially season ending collar bone injury.

Palmer had previously considered him retired before the trade went through this week. The former Pro Bowler told the Cincinnati Bengals during the off-season that he would not return to the team for the 2011-12 campaign and would retire unless the franchise traded him to another city. As a result, Palmer has not been active since the end of last season.
