The Boston Red Sox and Jacoby Ellsbury have agreed to terms on a one-year, $8.05 million deal to avoid arbitration, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors.

Ellsbury, 27, is coming off a career season in which he hit .321/.376/.552 with 32 home runs and 105 RBI. The Red Sox outfielder led the league in total bases with 364, helping him earn his first All-Star appearance.

His offensive outburst in 2011 led to a second place finish in the American League Most Valuable Player voting behind Detroit’s Justin Verlander.

Prior to 2011, Ellsbury had never hit more than eight home runs in a single season, or drove in more than 60 runs.
