Ex-Raiders head coach, Hue Jackson, regrets blasting his team in a Week 17 post-game news conference after losing to the San Diego Chargers and missing the playoffs, according to ESPN.com.

“I think probably the emotions were still pretty raw after talking to the team,” Jackson said in an interview with ESPN Radio’s Hill & Schlereth. “I kind of went in there and said some things that I was saying to the team that maybe didn’t need to be said outside the locker room.”

By failing to lead the Raiders to the playoffs for the first time since 2002, Jackson was fired on Tuesday after just one season with the team.  He told ESPN that he believes Raiders’ owner, Mark Davis, made the decision to let him go, and that he believes he would still be coaching the Raiders if Al Davis was still with the Team.

The Raiders finished third in the AFC West (8-8) this season and were first in the NFL in penalties (163).

The Oakland Raiders have fired head coach Hue Jackson, according to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Raiders began the season 7-4 after a strong start out of the gate. The club made several major acquisitions, including quarterback Carson Palmer and linebacker Aarron Curry, in an attempt to make a playoff push. However the team ultimately finished the season with an  8-8 record after an injury to star running back Darren McFadden halted the team’s offense.

Jackson was in his first year as the Raiders head coach after having previously served as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2010 under Tom Cable.

This season was Jackson’s first experience as a head coach at any level. With his firing, he joins the unenviable list of NFL coaches who were let go after just their first year on the job.
