Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton will have surgery on his right knee Sunday and will be out of the Marlins lineup for four to six weeks, the team announced Saturday.

The Miami Herald’s Manny Navarro reported, via Twitter, that Stanton will have surgery at 7 a.m. Sunday on the knee to remove bone chips. Stanton was pulled in the third inning of the Marlins’ 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

Stanton had previously hoped to delay any knee surgery until after the season. The surgery ensures that Stanton will miss both Monday’s Home Run Derby and Tuesday’s All Star Game in Kansas City. Washington Nationals outfielder and fellow young superstar Bryce Harper will replace Stanton on the All-Star roster, MLB announced Saturday night.

The 22-year-old sensation Stanton will be missed in the Marlins’ lineup. He was the team’s only All-Star, and he’s hitting .282 with a .915 OPS this season. He has 19 homers and 50 RBI.

Josh Hamilton, the Texas Rangers outfielder and baseball’s current leader of home runs this season, said he will not participate in this years Home Run Derby, reported Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

According to the report, Hamilton walked into the office of Rangers manager Ron Washington and told him that he isn’t going to participate:

Washington’s reaction: He gave Hamilton a hug.

“I didn’t help him with the decision,” Washington said. “But when he told me I was very, very happy he’s not doing it. He has so much torque in his swing. If he swings and misses, he could get hurt. And if he’s hurt, we’re hurt.’

Hamilton was named the AL Player of the Month this season after averaging .395 with 9 home runs and 25 RBIs.  A month later, in a game against the Baltimore Orioles on May 8 , Hamilton went 5-for-5 including four home runs and 8 RBIs, becoming only the 16th player in MLB history to accomplish this feat.

The Derby will be held July 9 in Kansas City. Robinson Cano, the New York Yankees second baseman, will lead the American League during the event while Matt Kemp, the outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will lead the National League for the Derby.
