Naismith Hall of Fame Announces 2012 Inductees

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced has announced the 12 members of the Class of 2012.

The Inductees include the following seven prominent figures in the sport of basketball:  five-time NBA All-Star Reggie Miller, the NBA’s all-time winningest coach Don Nelson, three-time National College Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, two-time Olympic gold medalist Katrina McClain, distinguished basketball official and coordinator Hank Nichols, former college and NBA star Jamaal Wilkes and the first women’s professional basketball team, the All American Red Heads.

They join the five directly elected members who were announced during the NBA All-Star Weekend in February.  The five directly elected members include: two-time ABA MVP Mel Daniels, 1948 Olympic gold medalist Don Barksdale, Lidia Alexeeva from the International Committee, seven-time NBA All-Star Chet Walker and Nike co-founder and chairman Phil Knight.

The official induction is scheduled for September 6-8, 2012 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

  • Barry Larkin Named To MLB Hall Of Fame

    Former Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin has been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America, according to the organization’s official Twitter account.

    This was Larkin’s third time on the Hall of Fame ballot. Last year he received 62.1% of the vote. This year he received 86.4%.

    Larkin played 19 seasons with the Reds, earning trips to 13 All-Star games over the course of his illustrious career. In total he collected 2,340 hits and stole 379 bases while posting career averages of .295/.371/.444. He also won three Gold Gloves over the course of his career.

    In 1995, Larkin was named the National League MVP after hitting .319/.394/.492 with 15 home runs and 51 stolen bases.
