The New York Giants have released former starting middle linebacker Greg Jones, reports The Star-Ledger‘s Mike Garafolo.

As a rookie last season, Jones, a sixth-round pick out of Michigan State, started five games, including the season opener, and amassed 22 tackles.

Jones contributed on special teams as the Giants reached – and won – the Super Bowl. It was there he had likely his best moment with New York.

On the field shortly after the Super Bowl win, Jones proposed to his girlfriend. (See the video above).

Jones was moved to outside linebacker in the offseason. He is not eligible for the Giants’ practice squad because he played in all 16 regular season games last year.
