Injured Cleveland Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore is hoping to rejoin the team in June, according to the Associated Press.

Sizemore, 29, had surgery in early March to repair his lower back, an injury sustained while rehabbing from October knee surgery. A three-time American League All-Star, Sizemore has played a total of only 104 games between 2010 and ’12. He’s been on the DL seven times in four years.

Incidentally, the Indians are doing just fine in Sizemore’s absence — they’re 17-11, best in the AL Central.

Cleveland Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore will be sidelined until the first week of June at the earliest, according to the team’s official website.

Sizemore underwent back surgery in March and was initially supposed to be ready three months after the surgery took place. Sizemore was officially placed on the 60-day disabled list yesterday.

“That continues to be our hope,” general manager Chris Antonetti said. “At this point, that’s the best-case scenario.”

“He feels good,” Antonetti said. “It’s good to see Grady with a smile on his face, and I think he knows he’s heading in the right direction. Hopefully, when the 60-day period is over, he’s ready to come back and contribute and help the team win. He’s still working on stability and mobility with his lower back. He has not yet initiated baseball activities, but in a couple weeks, he’ll start to do that. And then, obviously, there’s a progression he’s going to need to go through at that point.”

Sizemore hit .224 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles and 32 RBIs in 71 games for the Indians last season.

From 2009-2011, Sizemore has played in just 210 out of 486 games for the Indians after a series of injuries resulted in major stints on the disabled list for three consecutive seasons. From 2005-2008, however, Sizemore missed just five games and was considered by many to be one of the most talented young players in baseball.

The Cleveland Indians placed center fielder Grady Sizemore on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. Sizemore underwent back surgery in March.

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti told the AP that Sizemore will resume baseball activities in a few weeks, but he isn’t eligible to return to the field until early June.

Sizemore re-signed with the team in January and was injured fielding ground balls during spring training.

He played in just 71 games in 2011, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 32 runs.

The injury woes continue for Grady Sizemore — the Cleveland Indians announced today that their star outfielder has undergone back surgery and will miss eight to 12 weeks.

Sizemore underwent a minimally invasive procedure this morning on his lower back. The surgery was performed by Dr. Barth Green of the University of Miami School of Medicine; Sizemore is now expected to return to Arizona and begin the rehab process.

“I feel bad for him,” Indians manager Manny Acta told MLB.com. “Obviously, it seems like he can’t catch a break over the last couple of years.”

Sizemore has been hampered by injuries for much of the last three years. He played in just 71 games last season, hitting an anemic .224 with 10 home runs.

The 29-year-old Sizemore is a three-time All-Star, being named to the American League squad in 2006, ’07 and ’08.

Grady Sizemore has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Indians, according to a tweet from Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman. The deal is reportedly worth $5 million with the possibility of an extra $4 million in incentives.

In October the Indians declined their 2012 option on Sizemore that would pay him $8.5 million in 2012. Sizmore will now have the ability to make more money than he was originally owed this season, but the Indians will have increased protection against the 29-year-old’s injury history.

In 2011 the three-time All-Star hit just .224/.285/.422 with 10 home runs in 71 games. Throughout his eight year career he has posted a 162 game average of .269/.357/.473 with 25 home runs and 24 stolen bases.

Cleveland Indians’ outfielder Grady Sizemore is likely going to re-sign with his old team, according to a Fox Sports report. The Indians declined to pick up his $9 million club option prior to the season, making him a free agent.

Sources told Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal that the deal was “very likely.” Sizemore is expected to sign a one-year deal, giving him another chance at free agency following the season.

Sizemore has struggled with injuries over the last two years, playing only a 104 games in two seasons. Still, he was reportedly being aggressively pursued by the Cubs, Phillies, and Rockies.
