Twenty-five years ago, Mike Tyson was on top of the boxing world; now he’s spouting opinions about the guys who have taken over that throne. Iron Mike says he believes ultimately we will see a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, according to ESPN.

“I just believe they’re going to have a fight at some time,” Tyson said. “If they don’t fight, that’s the question mark of their era. What happened?”

While Mayweather and Pacquiao are the two kings of the sport and everyone wants to see them mano a mano, there have been a number of obstacles. The two have quibbled over everything from drug testing to splits of the purse; some think Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao.

Tyson hopes the two can revolve their issues and get into the ring soon.

“They’re two fighters, they should be able to do what they want to do,” he said. “We as fans want to see them fight, but if they’re not happy, not comfortable fighting, they should be entitled to do what they want. I want to see the guys fight, and they know we want to see them fight and are going to pay as much as they ask us to see them. Until it happens, we don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Spike Lee made peace in Miami after a racially insensitive tweet by Mayweather about New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin sparked an online rift between the two, according to Fox Sports.

Lee and Mayweather were both present at AmericanAirlines Arena during last night’s Miami Heat victory over the New York Knicks. According to a tweet from Lee, the two settled their differences.

Mayweather caused a stir online earlier this month when he tweeted, “Jeremy Lin is a good player, but all the hype is because he’s Asian … Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.”

Lee, in particular, took exception to the tweet. Replying later, “Floyd Mayweather I Hope You Watched Jeremy Hit The Gamewinning 3 Pointer With .005 Seconds Left. Our Guy Can BALL PLAIN AND SIMPLE.RECOGNIZE.”

The Knicks lost 102-88 to the Heat with Mayweather on hand.

  • Manny Pacquiao Says Floyd Mayweather’s Offer To Fight Was Financially Unacceptable

Manny Pacquiao turned down a $40 million guarantee to fight Floyd Mayweather earlier this month, but Pacquiao says that Mayweather’s offer was just a public relations stunt and not financially acceptable, according to Yahoo! Sports.

“He offered me $40 million, and no pay-per-view [money],” Pacquiao told Yahoo! Sports. “No pay-per-view. Can you believe that? Would you do that? Come on. What would he say if I offered him $50 million – not $40 million, $50 million – and said ‘No pay-per-view. Take this money and be happy, but no pay-per-view.’ He wouldn’t do it, either.”

According to Yahoo! Sports, the fight would likely generate over $160 million in pay-per-view money. Pacquiao insists he wants to fight, but at a more reasonable offer; he asked Mayweather for $50 million guaranteed with the pay-per-view money being split, according to Yahoo! Sports.

“I told him, ‘OK, 50-50 [with the money] and I’ll agree to everything else,’ ” Pacquiao said. “I told him I would agree to all of the other things he was demanding. Everything. Even the blood testing he wanted, I would do it. But it had to be 50-50.”

That offer had no response from Mayweather’s side, according to Yahoo! Sports.

“He talks, he says all this, but you know what: He doesn’t want the fight,” Pacquiao told Yahoo! Sports. “I want the fight. I’m the one who has wanted this fight all along.”

  • Manny Pacquaio Sees No Economic Benefit, Rejects Mayweather’s Challenge

Manny Pacquiao’s camp says there is no economic benefit in accepting Floyd Mayweather’s challenge to fight in Las Vegas May 5, according to The Guardian.

Mayweather challenged Pacquiao via twitter earlier this week writing “Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.” Pacquiao’s financial advisor, Michael Koncz, argues that having the fight in a smaller arena is “foolish from an economic standpoint.”

According to Koncz, the MGM Grand’s limited capacity only seats approximately 17,000 fans, which could potentially raise $20 million in sales. A 45,000 seat boxing arena is currently being built in Las Vegas and could raise up to $50 million.  However, the larger arena will not be completed in time for a potential bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather.

Mayweather is available for a fight in May after a judge agreed to postpone his jail sentence last week for domestic violence charge.

  • Manny Pacquaio Says Floyd Mayweather Fight Is A Priority

Manny Pacquiao says that he is making sure that his next fight be against archrival Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to USA Today.

“I am meeting with my promoter, Bob Arum, and I will insist that the fight with Mayweather be given the preference than the four others in the list I will fight next,” Pacquiao said according to USA Today.

Mayweather recently had a 90-day prison sentence postponed until after May. The undefeated boxer said he is planning to schedule a fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and that he would fulfill his sentence for misdemeanor assault and harassment after the bout. Mayweather’s attorney reportedly argued that by allowing the fight to occur, the Judge’s ruling to postpone his sentence would help bring millions of dollars to the city.

Pacquaio’s camp, however, would reportedly prefer a bout in November and at a larger venue.
