The Dallas Mavericks are set to waive center Eddy Curry to make room for the recently signed Troy Murphy, reports ESPN.com.

The Mavericks claimed Curry off waivers the day before the preseason finale. He had  seven points and four rebounds in 17 minutes in the season opening win against the Los Angeles Lakers and played eight minutes, scoring two points in the Mavericks 113-94 loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.

Murphy, a 12-year veteran, played 59 games for the Lakers last season averaging 3.2 points. Murphy has career averages of 10.9 points and 7.9 rebounds.

The Mavericks are still without All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki, who is battling a knee injury and Chris Kaman, who is almost ready to come back from a calf injury.

The Mavericks plan to waive backup guard Delonte West in order to free up a roster spot and put in a waiver claim on center Eddy Curry, a source told Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News.

The team indefinitely suspended West for “conduct detrimental to the team” Thursday morning. He was previously suspended on Oct. 16 following a locker room outburst on Oct. 16.

West’s Twitter account claimed the latest incident was “no bi-polar trip.”

The Mavericks can wait until the Monday 15-man roster deadline to waive West and possibly add Curry, who was waived by the Spurs on Tuesday.

Veteran center Eddy Curry showed up in shape at the San Antonio Spurs training camp on Monday, reports the San Antonio Express-News

The No. 4 overall pick in the 2001 draft, he has career averages of 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, with an All-Star-like 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 81 games with the Knicks in 2006-07.

Curry has played in only 24 games the past three seasons, although he did win a  championship ring as a member of the Miami Heat last season.

“I worked hard this summer,” Curry said. “I dropped 15, 20 pounds. I was in pretty good shape when the season ended. I just had to maintain, trim up a little bit more.”

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he noticed the change in Curry’s appearance.

“I didn’t know much about Eddy Curry and he did come into camp lighter than I thought he would,” Popovich said.

Miami Heat unrestricted free agent Eddy Curry is getting another chance to leave his mark on the league, this time with the Brooklyn Nets, as the team spent Wednesday morning working out the center for a possible roster spot next season, according to a tweet from Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

The Nets also worked out free agent forward Hilton Armstrong, who was selected 12th overall in the 2006 NBA Draft but hasn’t played since the 2010-11 season when he was with the Atlanta Hawks.

Curry, though widely-considered to be one of the biggest busts in the league after being selected by the Chicago Bulls fourth overall in the 2001 Draft, would provide insurance for the Nets should Brook Lopez and/or Reggie Evans go down with an injury. In 14 appearances last season with the Heat, Curry averaged 2.1 points in 5.9 minutes per game en route to the team winning an NBA championship.

Heat center Eddy Curry may see some playing time tonight for the first time since 2009 in tonight’s matchup against the Lakers, according to the Miami Herald.

“It’s going to feel great, It’d feel even better if I can do a Mike Miller and just go 6 for 6. I’m not anticipating that. That’s a pretty tough act to follow,” Curry told the Herald of his return to the court.

Curry has been rehabbing from a hip flexor strain incurred at the start of training camp.  He is still day-to-day and is still being evaluated by the Heat’s training staff.  Head coach Erik Spoelstra is optimistic that Curry will return soon if not tonight against the Lakers, according to the Herald.

The last time Curry saw playing time was in December of 2009 as a member of the New York Knicks.  During those four minutes, he was 0-2 , picked up a foul and hit one of two free throws against the Chicago Bulls.
