Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown received a contract extension on Thursday for six years worth $53.4 million, reports the Houston Chronicle.

“We are thrilled to have solidified our offensive line with this extension for Duane,” said Texans Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Rick Smith in a statement. “We believe Duane is an outstanding young left tackle who has the determination, commitment and ability to develop into one of the NFL’s top performers. It’s also an exciting day for our organization. We’ve laid the foundation for sustained success and this is an important step in building on that and toward a championship.”

Brown, 26, started all 16 games for the Texans and was named a second-team All-Pro last season. The extension starts after this season. Brown will make $2.08 million this year, and will receive a guarantee of $22 million.

Houston Texans offensive tackle Duane Brown felt that the omission of a single Texans offensive lineman from the AFC Pro Bowl team was a “slap in the face,” according to the Houston Chronicle.

“Definitely, it is a slap in the face,” Brown told the paper. “I think we’re one of the best O-lines in the league, and for not one of us to make it says something. We already have a lot to prove, and this just adds to it.”

Two players from the Texans, running back Arian Foster and cornerback Johnathan Joseph were named to the Pro Bowl team.

The Texans’ offensive line helped Foster run for 1224 yards this season, which currently ranks third in the NFL. The line has not only supported the run well this season, but have also supported the team’s strong passing game. Texans starting quarterbacks have only been sacked a total of 30 times this season.
