Free agent wide receiver Donte Stallworth has been taken to a Miami hospital along with his girlfriend after sustaining injuries in a hot air balloon accident on Saturday morning.

Stallworth’s balloon reportedly crashed into power lines at about 10 a.m. Saturday at 29th Street and SW 217th Avenue in Miami, according to the Miami Herald. The balloon operator was unharmed, but Stallworth and his girlfriend were taken to the Trauma Center at Kendall Regional Hospital, according to the report.

Stallworth was burned in the accident and is in stable condition, according to ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss.

The injuries are not serious and the 32-year-old will be able to resume his football career, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Stallworth appeared in just one game for the Patriots last season and has changed teams every season since 2006, playing for the Eagles, Browns, Ravens and Redskins.

His best seasons came with the Saints, including 945 yards and seven touchdowns in 2005. But a 2009 arrest on DUI manslaughter charges stemming from an incident in Miami Beach derailed his career, and he was suspended for the entire 2009 regular season.

The New England Patriots placed wide receiver Donte Stallworth on injured reserve with an ankle injury and released tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, the team announced Monday.

NFL.com reports that Patriots are re-signing wide receiver Deion Branch to fill Stallworth’s roster spot. The Patriots released Branch during training camp but brought him back on Sept. 19 only to let him go again last month.

Stallworth suffered a high ankle sprain on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady during the third quarter of the Patriots’ 42-14 victory over the Houston Texans on Monday night. Stallworth had just re-signed with the team on Dec. 4 and was seeing his first action of the season. The touchdown pass he caught from Brady was his only reception of the game.

Stallworth has played nine NFL seasons with six different teams and signed with the Patriots in March but was released after training camp.

Good news comes in threes for the New England Patriots’ receiving corps — after coming to terms with free-agent wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Anthony Gonzalez over the weekend, the Pats are now signing Donte Stallworth as well, reports Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston.

This is Stallworth’s second stint in New England — the 31-year-old wideout was also a member of the 2007 team that went 18-0 but then lost Super Bowl XLII. Stallworth had 46 receptions for 697 yards and three touchdowns that season.

Stallworth spent the 2008 season with the Cleveland Browns; he was suspended for all of 2009 after he pled guilty to DUI and manslaughter. He played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2010 and the Washington Redskins in 2011. All told, he’s amassed 320 catches for 4,774 yards and 34 touchdowns in his nine-year NFL career.
