Chicago Bears record-setting kick returner and wide receiver Devin Hester says he doesn’t know if he is going to play football anymore and is devastated that the team fired head coach Lovie Smith after nine seasons.

Hester also blamed the media and fans saying they “got what they wanted” with Smith’s firing. Smith was let go on Monday despite the Bears going 10-6 in 2012, but the Bears won’t be playing in the postseason for the fifth time in six seasons.

“I don’t even know if I want to play again, man,” Hester said to the Chicago Tribune. “You know, that’s been on my mind for two years now.”

“It’s not (as much fun anymore). It ain’t. So, I have my workers’ comp papers in my pocket. See how I feel, go home and talk to my wife, my family. See where we go from there. I’ve got two beautiful kids, man, young. Two boys. A lot of stress has been on my mind lately.”

Hester, 30, averaged 25.9 yards on kickoff returns, 8.3 yards on punts and caught 23 passes for 242 yards and one touchdown this season. Hester holds the NFL record for the most combined special teams return touchdowns in a career with 18.

Antoinne Robert Hester, reportedly the cousin of Chicago Bears wide receiver Devin Hester, is wanted for the murder of a 20-year-old Florida man, according to reports.

FOX News Chicago reports that Antoinne Hester, 22, is wanted by the Sheriff’s Office in Broward County, Fla., for the July 4 shooting of Bevins Bennett. HLN’s Jon Leiberman reports that law enforcement officials have been in touch with Devin Hester in their search for his cousin.

Media outlets initially reported that Antoinne Hester was the brother of the Bears receiver, but Leiberman clarified their relationship in a pair of tweets Tuesday.

(The charge reflected in the warrant for Antoinne Hester’s arrest at the time of this story’s writing may still be attempted murder, but Bennett died over the weekend, and the charges will be upgraded to murder, according to Leiberman. It’s unclear whether that process has already taken place.)

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

There should be no excuses when it comes to how potent the Chicago Bears passing attack should be this season.

With newly acquired Brandon Marshall and rookie Alshon Jeffrey now at his disposal, Cutler surprised many with who he said was having the organized team activity session.  ”Devin Hester is having the best camp of all the receivers,” Cutler tells the Chicago Tribune. ”So we have a lot of weapons.”

With Hester also doing kickoff and punt return duty, there has been talk about limiting the amount of plays Hester is on the field. “I don’t think less plays is the answer for him,” Cutler says. ”I think we’re just going to put Devin in position to be successful every time he’s out there.”

  • Devin Hester: Signing Donovan McNabb “A Waste of Time”

Chicago Bears wide receiver Devin Hester told Mike and Mike in the Morning he believes signing recently waived quarterback Donovan McNabb would be a “waste of time,” NBC Sports reports.

“It’s going to be tough right now to pick up a quarterback that hasn’t played in the Mike Martz offense,” Hester told the show. “This is a difficult offense to run, so as far as a quarterback who hasn’t played in the offense, right now it’s going to be a waste of time.”

“We’re going to stick with the guys we got right now and hope we get better with those guys,” Hester continued.

The Bears reeled off a five game winning streak prior to losing quarterback Jay Cutler to a season ending thumb injury. Since backup Caleb Hanie assumed the starting role, the Bears have posted two consecutive losses.

The Bears currently hold a 7-5 record and sit second in the NFC North behind the undefeated Green Bay Packers.

A Chicago-area man has pleaded guilty to slapping Chicago Bears’ wide receiver Devin Hester while at an Illinois casino, according to the Associated Press. The assault took place in mid-October.

Daniel Rago of Mount Prospect (Ill.) was arrested after slapping Hester, who was standing in line, in the back of the head, police say. Hester did not retaliate.

Rago’s lawyer insists the event was a misunderstanding, saying his client believed that Hester had cut in line in front of an elderly couple. Cook County assistant state’s attorney Kimberly Przekota called the attack “both insulting and unprovoked,” according to the AP.

Rago was ordered Thursday to complete 80 hours of community service and to pay $315 in court fees.
