Free agent forward C.J. Miles has signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to a series of tweets from the Salt Lake Tribune‘s Brian T. Smith.

Miles spurned interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Dallas Mavericks. According to Smith, these teams were capable of offering Miles more money, but Miles wanted the chance to be a starter and have his own impact, even if it came with a smaller paycheck.

Drafted straight out of high school by the Jazz in 2005, Miles has played all of his seven NBA seasons in Utah. He enjoyed a career year in 2010-11, averaging 12.8 points and 3.3 rebounds a game in a role that mostly saw him come off the bench. His production dipped slightly last season, though at 25, he offers the unusual combination of being both young and experienced.

A source tells Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake Tribune that free-agent guard C.J. Miles has a number of suitors, but that at the moment he favors the Los Angeles Lakers.

Miles, 25, has spent his entire seven-year career with the Utah Jazz, who drafted him out of high school in 2005. He averaged 12.8 points two seasons ago but otherwise has never been in double figures, scoring 9.1 per game this past season.

However, Miles’ athleticism and defensive skills are also above average, making him a valuable reserve even if he is not a high-volume scorer.
