Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie was at Toronto’s Eaton Center Mall on Saturday afternoon when he heard gun shots ring out. Exiting the downtown shopping center, Lawrie took to Twitter, breaking news of a shooting that The Toronto Star now reports has injured two.

Lawrie, a native Canadian, is being credited throughout the twittersphere with breaking news of the shooting. The Eaton Center Mall is known as the largest mall in downtown Toronto. It lies just over one mile from the Rogers Center, where the Blue Jays play their home games.

    Major League Baseball has suspended Brett Lawrie for four games for throwing his helmet at umpire Bill Miller Tuesday night.

    Lawrie was upset that he had been called out on strikes on a pitch that appeared to be high and out of the zone. He immediately turned toward Miller and threw his helmet at the ground in his direction before being restrained by coaches and teammates.

    The 22-year-old is hitting .289 with three home runs and 17 RBI this season.
