Bobby Petrino will be named the new head football coach at Western Kentucky University, according to a tweet from the Bowling Green Daily News‘ Chad Bishop.

The job will mark Petrino’s return to coaching following a tumultuous 2012 for the former Arkansas head man. Petrino was fired from his post at Arkansas following a motorcycle crash involving himself and a former Arkansas volleyball player he hired to a position within the football program. It was subsequently revealed that Petrino was having an affair with the woman, and that she had received an undisclosed $20,000 gift from Petrino.

Petrino was fired as Arkansas head football coach on April 10th due to his misleading of authorities and administration about the affair. He had a 34-17 overall record with the Razorbacks, a four-year run that included trips to the Liberty, Sugar, and Cotton Bowls in 2009, 2010, and 2011 respectively.

Arkansas Sports 360 is reporting that Arkansas interim football coach John L. Smith filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation today. Smith listed estimated assets between $1 million and $10 million, and debts between $10 million and $50 million.

University officials have been aware of Smith’s financial woes, since naming him as the interim replacement for fired coach Bobby Petrino in April. Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said Smith was up front about his financial problems during the hiring process.

“Certainly, initially, I had concerns, but as he explained the situation to me, it clearly became a bad investment,” Long said. “There’s a large differentiation for me between what we had just gone through and someone who had made a bad financial decision and put himself in a financial difficulty. But at the same there, there was nothing inappropriate other than he had engaged in a risky financial deal.”

Smith has painted his debt as bad land investments. He is scheduled to be paid $850,000 during his 10-month employment at Arkansas.
