Monday night’s NFL matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers was delayed twice due to obscure power outages, however the real potential danger to the safety of the fans and players was a reported bomb threat that was called-in just minutes before the game, according NBC Sports.

After receiving the threat via phone, the stadium was searched for an explosive device, however nothing was found.

The two power outages were caused by a transformer explosion outside the stadium. The first delayed the start of the game, and the second occurred during the second quarter.

Following Monday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark told the San Francisco Gate that he thinks the two power outages which delayed the nationally televised game for nearly a combined hour were staged.

“I just feel like San Francisco took a big stage to show the NFL and to show the state of California that they needed a new stadium. I think it was a very strategic move and Candlestick may be no more very soon,” Clark told the Gate.

Chilly Candelstick Park celebrated its 40th year as the home of the San Francisco 49ers this season. The 49ers have been attempting since 2006 to build a new modernized stadium for the team to play in, however financial and political hurdles have gotten in the way. Current plans have the storied franchise relocating to Santa Clara as soon as the 2014 season.

During the second power-outage induced delay, ESPN showed a graphic of what the potential new stadium would look like for the 49ers.
