Raiders owner: 2014 is Oakland’s ‘last chance’ to keep team

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis said the team could be leaving Oakland soon if he doesn’t see some progress with plans to build a new stadium.

The team’s lease at O.co Coliseum expired after this past season, but the team agreed to a one-year extension to stay in town.

The Raiders first played in the stadium from 1966-1981 and have been there since 1995 when the team moved back to Oakland from Los Angeles.

“I don’t want to call it a last-ditch effort, but it does seem to be the last chance that Oakland is going to get,” Davis told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We can’t continue to play in that stadium, with the baseball field and all of that stuff.”

Colony Capital LLC, a real estate firm, said last year it would redevelop the area into a “sports and entertainment center,” but Davis said he hasn’t heard anything positive from the group.

“They brought in Colony Capital and based on that, I decided to go ahead and do a one-year extension with them. But there’s been no progress,” Davis said. “I had high hopes when Colony Capital came in. I still do have hopes, but they’re not as high because I haven’t really heard anything positive from either group. It’s gone silent again. We have to get something done.”

Why on earth would anybody want the Raiders to do anything except go far away. Epic bad team, for a very long time.

As a long time Raiders fan (since 1968), how about doing something to make Oakland want to keep you.  This team has been absolutely horrible ever since their loss to Tampa in the Super Bowl.

I knew keeping my old "Los Angeles Raiders" licence plate frame was a good idea! HA! For once, I'm ahead of the curve!

As much as I want the Raiders to remain in Oakland, to have to play in that dump of a stadium, on the dirt infield, is enough to understand why they want to move.

buy the land yourself, and develop it as you wish. Stop asking the taxpayers to fund your personal desires.
