After her gold medal performance in the women’s slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games, Mikaela Shiffrin will appear on the national cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated.

Shiffrin, 18, is the youngest winner of a slalom event, a remarkable feat for Team USA’s newest prodigy. She is the first U.S. women’s slalom medalist since 1972.

In this issue of Sports Illustrated, Tim Layden writes about America’s newest Olympic hero: an 18-year-old “teen idol” with her best days most likely still ahead.

Shiffrin was previously featured on a cover of SI‘s Olympic Preview edition.

Don't, under any circumstances, take Tiger's calls...

People outside skiing might not know her but the girl's legit... If you compare her World Cup/Olympic accomplients to the age at which most of the top skiers got these results...it's insane.

Mikaela is already one of the most interesting elite female athletes I've ever seen because she has a very unique personality, one you might not associate with being great at sports.

Yet, she is dominant.  It seems to reinforce Malcolm Gladwell's theory about 10,000 hours.

Without any disrespect for her amazing win, I remember a similarly amazing win by a 17 year old Austrian, named Franz, about 25 or 30 years ago...which was achieved at a European site.

@TheHarmonyDude  Franz was 23 if you're talking about Klammer.  Not sure what you mean about "european site", the conditions at Sochi were as demanding as any in the world, if not more due to the snow conditions.
