Former Cowboys coach Barry Switzer thinks Johnny Manziel is ‘an arrogant little pr—’

Barry Switzer thinks Johnny Manziel is an excellent talent, but he doesn’t like Manziel’s attitude.

The 76-year-old, who won three national championships at Oklahoma and Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys, was on “The Morning After” show on CBS Sports Radio in St. Louis on Wednesday morning and was critical of the former Texas A&M star.

“I don’t like Johnny Manziel’s antics. I think he’s an arrogant little pr—,” Switzer said, according to a tweet from Tim McKernan, one of the show’s hosts.

SI WIRE: Ron Jaworski says he wouldn’t draft Johnny Manziel in first three rounds

But Switzer went on to say Manziel is “the most dominant college football quarterback I’ve seen in a long time,” and that’s he’s never seen a college quarterback do what Manziel does. He also said the Rams should draft him if he’s available at No. 2, and that Manziel takes over a game like Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson.

Manziel, who threw 63 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in two seasons with the Aggies, is known for his demonstrative behavior on the field. The 21-year-old led Texas A&M to an 11-2 record and Cotton Bowl win in 2012 and a 9-4 record and Chick-fil-A Bowl victory last year.

Switzer also shared his thoughts on the prospect of drafting an openly gay player.

Know he acted like a king size jerk  too many times off the field but the is a player , a legitimate  1st rounder ...One thing he does that too many College QB can;t do is extend  the play  ..Right when you think Manziel is going to get sacked he finds a way  to move to avoid the sack and a lot of times make the completion ...And, he's  great at throwing off balance -- running to his left or right ...He's going to be a lot better than Doug  Flutie  or Fran- a tad over rated- Tarkenton  ....Barry S  kinda of crossed the line with his comments -  Been a big  OU fan for years  ....

Go back on your meds, Barry.

What a fraud.

Kid was 20 years old and enjoying his time being the highest profile player in COLLEGE.  People seem to forget these things.  I'm sure everybody put in that situation would act like a saint.

He dominated the college game, his teammates seemed to like him, and watching him is entertainment in every sense of the word.  I think he'll do well in the NFL, and I hope he does because he's fun to watch.

I do find it funny that people click on this story, read it, then post a "who cares" comment. Ummm...clearly you cared enough to click on the story and read it....and post about it. Just sayin'

If I was in the top five draft positions this year I would be looking to trade down for multiple later picks. There is good depth, but nothing but question marks at the top. You cannot afford to make a mistake in the NFL draft these days.

Remember when Bobby Griffin was going to Canton before he was drafted too?  Then the excuses of "not being healthy" last year?  All this hype is ridiculous.  College football is not the NFL

Credit Barry for his Candor.  I still believe Manziel is the real deal.  Will be fun to watch it play out.

Manziel took an A&M team that nobody expected to compete in the SEC, and all he did was lead them to 20 wins in two years, including two extremely impressive bowl performances.  He's earned his chance to prove what he can do in the pros.  Arrogance in a quarterback kind of comes with the territory.

I don't always agree with Barry, but I think he's spot on this time.  It may just be a perception, but Johnny Football has worked hard to create that perception, so it's his problem to confront.

Nice. A drunk who relied on criminals to win chooses to judge a kid. What a tool.

Can't stand Switzer but can't disagree with him about Manziel.

Switzer calling someone else "arrogant." Now that's funny.

Does ANYONE really care what this clown thinks?

Funny, that's what I used to say about Switzer.

"There are owners out there who would draft Charles Manson if he could run a 4.2 40."

Just one? I'm thinking there might be one who wouldn't.

He will not do well in the NFL.  Johnny Manziel is Tim Tebow with a better arm.

is an arrogant little professional?

Slow down Barry, he hasn't even been drafted yet.

Barry knows a lot about "arrogant little pr***ks". He saw one looking back at him in the mirror every morning when he coached at Oklahoma and then he worked for one in Dallas when he coached the Cowboys. Of course, he won championships in both situations. Hmmm.

What was your point again, coach?

Switzer...you had me at prick, until you compared little Johnny to MJ.  God no, don't ever compare this puke to MJ...ever.

@NON SMILEY yeah, old people tend to say it like it is. Great talent, terrible attitude.

@duckfan59  Clearly someone does.  They asked him to be on a show and asked him what he thought.  duckfan59 calling someone else a clown.  Now that's funny.

@hubrob107 Cam didn't do it as well as Manziel. He also only did it for 1 year. I'm fan of Newton and don't like Manziel's attitude, but take some reality into it.,..

Um, everyone but Barry Switzer? Well thought out comment.

@PWINGS Switzer's an arrogant prick with championship rings on his fingers. Manziel on the other hand is just an arrogant prick.

Yeah! Wait until he develops a gambling problem or buys a team AND tries to run it!

@carjax1202  MJ was an arrogant pr___ too.  A very talented, arguably the best bball player ever, but still an arrogant pr__.

@Visionz311 @DAN B1  Yeah, I don't see any similarities between Manziel and Tebow in the least.  Tebow was a physically imposing, mature leader with a powerful arm but zero accuracy, field vision or understanding of the game.  Manziel is an undersized, immature, petulant child with a powerful arm and excellent accuracy, good field vision and solid understanding of the game.  Tebow's lack of accuracy and mental limitations will doomed him; Manziel's reckless playing style and emotional limitations will doom him.  Besides a strong arm, the only similarity they will share is that neither will be in the league in 2018.

PWINGS
PWINGS

@DanielGriffin @PWINGS  At Oklahoma, Switzer had the best college team money could buy. At Dallas, he won a championship with a team that Jimmie Johnson built and had already won two Super Bowls with. He was little more than a caretaker at Dallas.

As for Manziel...time will tell whether he wins anything in the pros although he led A & M to a win over National Champion Alabama in 2012.

carjax1202
carjax1202

@pk_sea @carjax1202  I'm not saying MJ Wasn't arrogant...confident maybe with a side of arrogance....and he was the best ever.  Little Johnny hasn't proved a damn thing yet with the big boys.  I still say, he won't make a good pro.
