Russell Wilson tweets that he’ll attend Rangers spring training in March

MLB

Now that he has a Super Bowl championship in hand, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will try his hand at baseball — at least for a day.

Even though he won’t be starting a second career, Wilson announced via Twitter on Thursday that he would join the Texas Rangers at their Spring Training facility on March 3. Wilson tweeted a photo of himself wearing a No. 3 Rangers jersey, while he held another Rangers jersey showing his name on the back.

Here’s Wilson’s tweet:

Wilson was selected by the Rangers in December’s Rule 5 draft. His agent said recently that he planned to make an appearance at Spring Training.

Wilson, who played second base, was taken twice during the MLB amateur draft — once in 2007 by the Baltimore Orioles before he chose to attend college, and then as a 2010 fourth-rounder by the Colorado Rockies. He played two seasons in the Rockies’ minor-league system — one with the short-season Class-A Tri-City Dust Devils and another with the Class-A Asheville Tourists.

Wilson officially decided to pursue a career in football after leading Wisconsin to the 2012 Rose Bowl.

Good luck, wouldn't mind seeing an injury here just because of the way Seattle fans are acting.

@PackersFanNumeroUno  Seriously?  Packers fans go bananas despite their multitude of championships.  Steelers fans are intolerable with their terrible towels.  Seattle wins a Lombardi for the first time in its entire history and Seahawks fans finally learn to let out their collective pent-up angst via wild celebrations and this leads you to the conclusion that a nice guy like Russell Wilson should get injured? Good luck to you as well-

@Epacific @PackersFanNumeroUno  PackersFan is a mid-grade troll account who has nothing better to do than to plague these boards day in and day out with purposely idiotic and inflammatory comments. Any response to PackersFan is giving him exactly what he wants. For best results, don't feed the trolls.
